Lemons

Written & Directed by Doug Naylor

Synopsis

Marooned in Britain in 23 AD, the Dwarfers need an 8-volt battery to power up their Returner Remote and get home. Remembering a lesson from school, Rimmer suggests they make a battery out of lemons - but the nearest lemon to Britain in 23 AD is in India, 4,000 miles away. They begin their journey, a journey that will ultimately lead them to a meeting with a historical A List Celebrity that could alter the entire history of civilisation.

Cast

Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat), Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), Indira Joshi (Erin), James Baxter (Jesus), Nicholas Richards (Uncle Aaron), Tom Pepper (Man Who May Be Jesus & Judas), Hormuzd Todiwala (Waiter)

Did You Know?

This may be the first ever Red Dwarf episode written with assistance from Twitter - with Doug Naylor seeking advice on the social network for how to obtain a galvanised nail while in first century India.

Another classic music cue is repurposed, with score from Kryten used while the crew are assembling the Rejuvenation Shower.

Lemons was the only episode of Series X to make use of location filming - with the initial teleportation scene taking place in the forest at Shepperton Studios, previously seen in such episodes as Rimmerworld.

A gag shown to the audience on the night of filming, but altered for broadcast, had the map showing the journey from England to India as starting in "Sheppertonium".
