Not wanting to be lablled as a troll,
I was watching Gunmen Of The Apoclypse" Recently and was wondering,
What's all the fuss about the episode?
It's good, granted but it's not the best.
    (To my opinion)
Feel free to set the matter straight
(Sorry if this has been brought up)

I like the episode well enough I don't entirely get the fuss though.

I think it could be a personal choice thing but it probably happened that a lot of people discussing it liked it, perhaps it was their own favourite. Personally my favourite episode is Quarantine, I love Mr Flibble! :-)

Me too! It was one of my first episodes and partly what got me so into RD. I've now got a coveted Mr Flibble puppet as well. ;-)

It's good, but it's definitely not the best, not nearly. White Hole, Psirens, Legion, Beyond a Joke and both Polymorphs are all examples of episodes I like more!

Oh, and if I see the word 'troll' one more time I'm gonna flip. A troll is a big ugly thing from Lord of the Rings. End of.

    Troll.
Only kidding! :-) Sorry, really couldn't resist that one!
Polymorph is really good I agree but again, it's down to personal taste. I love Rimmer's tshirt in Polymorph, no I won't give quiche a chance, I can't stand the stuff! :P

Actually a troll is probably something from mythology, if my memory serves me correctly. Much like the majority of the staple monsters you find in fiction these days, be it books, games or TV. If it isn't actually from mythology, then adapted from it is almost a guaranteed, as with a lot of the other staple monsters you find.

    'tis a wonderful thing mythology.

Also, they aren't necessary big and ugly. Check out the Terry Pratchett Discworld novels for instance, when some are tiny and can actually sit peacefully on your foot!

Actually on topic however, I do enjoy Gunmen of the Apocalypse. Overall it has struck as a strong episode with some good laughs and a plot that flows sufficiently well. Guess all have different tastes in what makes a truly great episode.

And as I guess the title of this thread relates to the Emmy win, one thing to always remember about awards is that the quality of the winner is only one factor, as the quality of the losers is also always a key determinant too. Many things that truly deserve the recognition and the awards fail to achieve because they are in the midst of far fiercer competition than something subpar which wins the same thing further down the line.

I read about it in 'Nude Penguins Monthly', the centre fold was Mr Flibble, the article was all about your secret fetish for gingham dresses and mop caps! :P

It's what they all say Flibble, Penguins all over would be shocked to the very core! :P

I don't know what it is about Quarantine that I love, can't put my finger on anything specific, I mean I love the puppet, the hex vision thing, the axe in Kryten's back and the speech he make when the Rimmer screws with his brain under hex influence, the first scene with Cat not taking orders from Rimmer to launch scouter. It all just adds up to make that my favourite ep really.

I wear my Brother's DVD out, I only have series 8 on dvd but am getting my own boxset of them all for Xmas. I didn't see the point in buying my own with xmas on the way and the fact that my brother has all the others, brothers must be useful for something eh?! lol

Incidently I have Quarantine on my ipod which is uber cool, I can watch it anywhere now. I am so glad you can get them on your mp4 players. I just need a decent sized ipod screen to watch it on now :/

Then there was his foray into hardcore porn which is much to rude to show on here... click at your own risk.

Gunman in one of my favourites, and I think it's deserving of its award. It's funny, has an imaginative and highly original plot, and like all the best Red Dwarf episodes it features some great lines ("I think we've all got something we can bring to this discussion, but I think from now on the thing you should bring is silence.") and classic moments, such as the Vindaloovian Empire sequence.

People's tastes are always going to differ though. Personally, I've always been baffled by the popularity of Quarantine.
