But we don't call them all birds. Starfish, eels, cod and cuttlefish all live in the sea. Yet go under the catch all generic titles of fish. This world is just plain wrong

That's an interesting thought, and one that was very worthy of creating a new thread about. What's your favourite type of fish, Neil? I'm partial to cod myself because it goes so well with chips.

Poor Neils time of the month? Do you use those ones that go all the way up their neil or the panty liner ones.

For a start, not all insects, lizards or even birds fly so it'd be a mistake to group them all as some single group which have a fairly easily defined identifying characteristic, like the broad term of fish which refers to animals which can live permanently underwater. Secondly it's not like every aquatic creature is referred to as "Fish" either, whales, dolphins, popoises, water insects and spiders, sea-snakes, penguins, seals, sea lions, walruses and probably more than a few that I've missed live all or part of their lives in and under water and are not lumped in with the broad categorisation of being "Fish".

TLDR Taxonomy is a bit more nuanced than you seem to give it credit for being.

some are still called fish, your argument that others aren't doesn't convince me for a second. It's wrong I tells ya, wrong

No, they're not. Anyone calling a whale or dolphin a fish is doing so in error. I can mistakenly call a Ford Fiesta a Jumbo jet but that doesn't make it a massive plane.

Also, again, where do all the missing socks go? And those child-proof tops on medicine, you can't open them can you? You need to get your eight year to do it!!! I hit my funny bone the other day, let me tell you folks, it wasn't funny. Supermarket trolleys, there's aways one dodgy wheel isn't there? And why don't they make the entire plane out of the black-box? What's that all about?

    That's usually demonstrably false.
