Most of the time Cat appears to have a sort of generic, London accent, albeit a very animated one, but on many occasion it's clearly meant to be American, most notability during his conversion with Dog in Parallel Universe.

I'd be interested in the views from the American posters here, as to whether you can pick that up, but also just in general, why he has a slight American twang at all?

He sounds American all the time to me. When in the show does he have a London accent?

Well okay, he doesn't. I suppose what I meant is that often the American accent is so slight he slips into his Danny Jules' accent (whatever that is).

Cat's voice is so consistently tense I identify it with about no accent at all.

But you must be able to hear the American twang when he's talking to Dog? "When's the last time you take a baath?"

Not quite sure what an 'American twang' is. But Cat's accent is nowhere close to any of the general American accents.

We just crap at American accents then - both hearing and doing. I wish I could say things were vice versa, but it wasn't until many years later when I saw her in a Jim Carey film, that I learned Renée Zellweger wasn't English (I'd only seen her in Bridget Jones up until then)

I'd say Dog has an American accent. Southern drawl?

In an interview from about twenty years ago, Danny said that the first time he spoke at an American Red Dwarf convention people were really surprised to find out he was English rather than American. So certainly some Americans are convinced by his American accent.

It could also be that some Americans think everybody in the UK is white.
