Sadly I never got a NES or Sega. But I had a Commodore Amiga, which was
terrific. My favourite games were Speedball 2, The Secret of Monkey Island,
and Mortal Kombat 2. Then I just got out of the habit of playing games, and
never got round to investing in a next gen console.

Games appeal to me but I suppose I just don't have the time any more. If I
ever get round to it, I'd like to get hold of a PS4 and virtual reality helmet -
now the technology is more mature. I always used to daydream about VR,
even when the graphics were crude horrible polygons, and I suppose virtual
reality is something I can actually have now. I hope I don't get motion sick,
or a headache or whatever! But it's a lot of money, because I'd also have to
upgrade my home entertainment system (i.e., get a telly, instead of watching
    shows on my laptop).

    Brilliant replies guys
Really got me thinking ya know
I just been reading through all these old memories
    Nice memories of consoles past
Great old games that I havnt thought about in yeats

By reading through some of these responses
A lot of old memories have returned to me
Cracking old games like monkey Island, Sonic, Super Markio
Kind of want to load up the old consoles and play again

Think I might have a game of Sonic tonight
Excellent are the old games, really good fun
Xbox one, Ps4, pc and switch is getting the new Sonic Mania in August

Really Excited for that one, looks like good old school fun
    I pre-ordered The crash N-Sane Trilogy on PS4 earlier
May cant end soon enough as there is new games next month
Micro Machines is also out next month. I loved the old ones, will this hold up?
E3 the games show is also this month. I am very hype to see what we get for that
Red Dead Redemption 2 was pushed back unfortunately I was looking forward to that.

James Pond was another good one - I think it was released on almost
everything (Amiga, Atari, Acorn, Megadrive). But would it still be fun
now? Doubtful. I don't think those old "platform romps" can cut it
nowadays. Games like Rainbow Islands haven't aged too well, and
you can only get so much joy out of jumping around in 2D.

Games only really hold my interest now if the physics are somewhat
realistic. With Super Mario, etc., all you really have is the gravity and
a bit of inertia. But I still enjoy (e.g) Worms because you have the
swinging rope, projectile arcs, wind speed, etc.. I'm also a massive
sucker for games where you damage or move stuff, and anything with
ragdoll physics. 2D games are fine, but only if I feel like I'm actually
operating in a real environment. With the old Mario-style games, I'm
only doing a small number of actions, and it feels fake. Headbutting
those blocks and jumping on monsters isn't diverting enough, now.

I hope the same thing about virtual reality, that I will not get a headache or motion sick. I suspect I will since that is what 3d movies do to me.

How funny that I was actually thinking of this
    Earlier.

    Whatever consoles we were into
    As youngsters are probably extremely
Likely to show up in our adulr personalities.
Knowing this, do you wish you had chosen
Some different type of console in your youth?

    And thinking about it further,
Might there in fact be some truth in the supposedly
Outrageous claims that video games cause
Nasty incidents to happen, particularly in the younger
Generations, what with all the school violence and shootings in more recent years.

    Understanding this is important guys.
    So very important

Here are my favourite games of all time - starting with Sci-fi:
    Another World
    Vektor Storm
(just Youtubed it - it looks horribly dated!)
Elite (ditto, but it's not about the graphics)

Final Fantasy VII is the king of Fantasy, but honourable mentions are:
    Ultima VI
Newer instalments in the Elder Scrolls series

    Strategy:
    Mega Lo Mania
Everything in the Civilization series by Sid Meier
Likewise, any of the Worms games except Worms 3D
    Lords of the Realm
    Imperium
    No Man's Land
    Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus

    Entertaining puzzle games:
Any version of Lemmings, including the open source clone Pingus
    Chip's Challenge
    Hidden City: Mystery of Shadows

    Online:
    The Amazing Dare Dozen
    Hexagon
    Escape
    Runaway Train
    Snake

Games that I couldn't complete, despite trying my hardest:
    Ultima VI (again!)
    Fantastic Dizzy
    Final Fight

    Fighting games:
    IK+
Little-remembered Commodore title: Way of the Exploding Fist
    Last Ninja
    Eternal Champions
(I didn't have a Sega, so had to play it at my friend's house)
    Double Dragon

    Text adventures:
Requiring some imagination, but no less amazing for it...
    Open Sorcery
    Underground Empire
or something (I think the series was called Zork?)
Sherlock: The Riddle of the Crown Jewels
Every Infocom text adventure - especially Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It was really
    REALLY hard though.
    Shadows of Mordor

I liked text adventure games. They taught me how to spell certain words, an area that I still have trouble with. I consider the first Kings Quest a type of text adventure despite the fact it did have visuals since you had to type in everything.

The first game I really got into was Paperboy. I loved all the Mario games too.

I wanna be the guy was a lets play classic for a really long time
Spider-man 2 based on the movie was an amazing game. Great swinging

Castlevania on the NES is an all time classic...maybe not 2 though
L.A Noire is an interesting gaming experiment
Alien Isolation is a modern very tense game that I really liked
Metal gear Solid 1, 2, 3, and 4 are some of my all time favorite games.

Anyone else like the series Harvest
    Moon?

    I really like it.

Yesterday I was searching around for my
Old DS cartridge cos I fancied playing it.
    Unfortunately I couldn't find it.

I haven't played any of the modern text adventures. If I play it's the old ones like the Zork series.

Skyrim is my most played RPG and it also doesn't run on my computer so I can't play it or Fallout 4 without eveything falling over.

Good point, why isn't there a Pokemon Orange. I never really played much outside of Pokemon for Nintendo either. Going by what I like, I should like Zelda, but I never could get into it.

I wanna be the guy is so hard. I couldn't even play on baby mode when he has the bow in his hair which I loved =D
I had a Spider-man game that was really good. It was the first Spiderman game based on the movies. I had a lot of fun.

I love watching Resident Evil playthroughts. I want to try it in VR even though normally I don't like horror games.

I still think Alone in the Dark is the scariest horror game despite its crappy square 3d.

Good to see so many people talking about their favourite games.
On a serious note though...how much time are you all spending
    On playing games per
    Day?
Because it's important to not spend TOO much time on them, or else
You could potentially cause some damage to your
Eyes and THAT would not be good would it?

People often think that is just a myth.
    Unfortunately it is true. Just
Because something SOUNDS like an old wives tale, doesn't mean it actually
IS an old wives tale. I mean plenty of old wives tales ARE false - eat your
Crusts and you'll get curls for example, is total nonsense.

However, that's not to say that none of these old wives tales
    Are true.
I'm sure some are. I just can't think of any
    Right now.
    Sorry I went off topic a bit then....Or did I ;-)

I prefer PC gaming. I have consoles and I will game on consoles and enjoy myself but majority of what I have played has been on the PC.

I don't spend much time gaming anymore. I still spend a lot of time of the computer and try to get on Guild Wars 2 occasionally to play with RL friends. I'll go through weeks where I will obsess over games and that is all I do when I get home from work, but that has been further and futher apart. Most recent two games I got obessed over was Princess Maker 2 when I discovered it was on steam. An old DOS game that I had an unoffical English translation for and Broken Age.

Wow this thread is really cookin!
How many games have been mentioned now?
    About a million I
    Think

Definitely need to play so of these game recommendations
Only if i had more time in the day to play them!

Keeping me occupied at the minute is the Friday the 13th game
Really good fun , pretty scary stuff
you are a Councillor at camp hiding from jason,
1 person plays as jason and tries to wipe everyone out, it is tough I have had games where
0 people made it out alive!

Also just finished the Bioshock collection
Not really new games but i got the collection cheap and played through them all
Definitely some great games and i hope they make a 4th!

The DLC was included in them all as well which was really good.
Even though there was some hard parts I managed to get through got a lot of
X box achievements for the three games and DLC as well

Really looking forward to Crash Bandicoot as I mentioned before
I also am pretty excited for when Shenmue 3 finally comes out. I loved the old ones
My hope is we get lets of great game announcements at E3
Mario Oddysey is going to be playable as well at E3, looking forward to seeing tha
Especially need some more games on my switch!
Right now I only have about 3!

This weekend I am going to play a LOT of Friday the 13th
Hardly have any time during the week what with work
I dont get home till late and am usually pretty tired!
New games sometimes sit untouched for ages with me!
Kind of wish I could be a kid again so I could play non stop

About 20 years ago now little cloud would be sitting with his N64
    Beating Goldeneye, Mario 64
Over and over again i played them
Understandably because I was a kid I didnt have money so I only had a few games
Tried to make them last but it wasnt always easy

Then games like Final Fantasy would keep me going ages
How many times I have played through 7 I have lost count
I even took my username from that game
so much nostalgia for Final Fantasy 7

Have any of you all got the Nintendo newsletter in your
E-mails? Sometimes I just think that some of these newer games
Are just not as appealing as the companies who make them
    Do believe they are.

Please, I do hope someone agrees with me. I mean, I've got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe loaded
Up in my Switch right now, it's not that all the new games are
Bad, it's just that I wish they weren't all generically the same. Looking forward to
E3 to see if anything which feels very new gets revealed.
    Signed, Abe.

I remeber how emotional ff7 was first time I played it, and how cool and unusual it felt to be playing an RPG in 3d. I've always being a massive RPG fan, I've played pretty much all of them on all consoles till about five years ago. The i had a lull. I'm currently on ff15, and very iimpatiently waiting the ps4 version of ff12. I bought a ps4 just for that game alone. It's one of, if not my actual, favourite game/s of all time, just because of the awesome chess board style levelling up system

Now I come to think about it, I am actually familiar with the BBC micro! We had them at school. There was a rota and
Everyone would get a turn to stay
    Inside at
Lunchtime and play on a game of their choice and my choice was always The Magic Telephone.
Somewhere online there's an emulator and me and JMC played it one night.

Probably my next favourite game was one called Landmarks - Victorians or something, where you had to guide a kid -
    Earnest Dalwood I believe his
Name was - around some Victorian town to find stuff. But
I mostly just asked him to marry me or try to make him
    Swear.

Lunchtimes were always fun when it was your time to play
On the computer. Even more fun than going
Outside. Even though I loved going outside to play with all the other
Kids. Ah, fond memories of the
    School playground eh?

Let's not stray too far off topic though.
I don't like to be the annoying person derailing the thread....or do I ;-)....no I don't, you all
Know me better than that I hope. Well
    Everyone SHOULD know that.

    Anyway....

    Looks
Like I just did what I swore not to and strayed right off topic. What were we even talking
    About...oh yes - BBC
Micro, I thought I'd never heard of it but turns out I
    Actually had, silly me!
