Part of it too I think is that the closer Red Dwarf gets to Earth I think the more remnants they find of humanity even thought they're extinct......or at least virtually extinct. However having people pulled through time is the laziest they've done so far. The best handling of this was in Samasra where they day before they even really get to interact with the Red Dwarf crew.....which was an interesting way to kick off the core plot, even if it was kinda a dull one!

I mind far less when they interact with non-human characters they encounter, since they first started doing that with Kryten in series 2. However I think they really need to start dialling back the guest casts because in series XII it's starting to get more then a little ridiculous after 3 episodes in a row on it!

Maybe he's building up to a final episode twist where Red Dwarf was populated all along but Lister just couldn't be arsed socialising as he'd have to have a wash.

Oh god....that would imply Red Dwarf is still populated by prison inmates, and that's not ground I wish to revisit. This garbage heap of an episode was already far too close to series 8 for my tastes!

It was a Shooting Stars sketch, surely. I was expecting Ulrika to show up as the Minge Matron.

Dare I say that people are enjoying criticising this episode!?

Actually that is a not a criticism (arghhh!) I agree with the people who say they're entitled (actually you don't need a reason per se, but people could ask why you are on a fan site if you dislike the show!), Red Dwarf has two things which allow this: firstly it is broadly sci-fi and people like to discuss the ideas raised in shows like this, people still fill up forums discussing ST:NG episodes from 30 odd years ago - in Dwarf there are gags, story and ideas (as opposed to something like My Family which has just one weak gag leading into another weak excuse for a weak gag); also Red Dwarf, right from the get go, gave us characters who are rounded and well formed, they are in ludicrous situations, but we feel we know and care about them - so people do have an emotional investment in the programme.

I used to enjoy criticising series VII and VIII (I can't remember a single episode from I-VI that I did not like), and I do have to admit this episode initially took me back to that state of mind; as I said before I have got over that initial feeling, and I kind of quite like this episode. I am actually going to pay a visit to VII and VIII this weekend to see if my attitude toward them has softened any! Wish me luck!

I have to say, I don't hate series 7.....it has it's problems (many of which for unavoidable reasons) but at it's core it still feels like Red Dwarf to me, even if a compromised version. Series 8 however had been one I could never not hate, it's everything the show wasn't and it embarrasses me, it almost turned me off the show all together. Which is why this episode is on I'm so overly negative about......it an uncomfortable repeat of what makes series 8 so painful to me!

But it has pink policemen, it's classic Dwarf, right alongside Marooned and Rapey Rimmer, the lost episode of Series II.

Too bloody right I am! It's cathartic - and after a let-down like this one, it's really all I've got left to enjoy about it!

I agree with this. It's another major reason why I find series 7 and series 8 hard to watch.

I think this for me is probably the worst episode of Red Dwarf I have ever seen. Which is a shame as series XII started off so well!

So many missing arcs (timewave exiting, Rimmer's jar of gas, what even happened to the ship!), our main core of characters not acting like we expect of them (titties joke, critical Lister etc.), the unnecessary repetition of similar jokes (cat in starbug), the ship and crewmen may have looked ridiculous but it was the fact it was so unbelievable that ruined that concept for me.

There was some very good one liners (shut up Kryten) but nothing that could have saved this poorly paced, badly written mess. After such a good run of episodes going all the way back to BTE I suppose a miss was bound to happen.

Maybe this was Doug's coming out episode.

Well dang, I mean I know I hated this, but you found this even worse then Pete Part 2?

Unbelievably, this might be in regards to its offensiveness and total banality, worse than Pete Part 2.

Well done Series VIII, you now have a cushion to rest your arse on in the episode rankings.

For me.....it rests confortably along with series VIII in the garbage fire or Red Dwarf's lowest moments. It's certainly in my top 5 worst though, maybe even top 3!

It could actually have been worse... they could have included Kochanski into the mix...

Kochanski in a male business suit, in blackface.

It's certainly an option for Timewave: Director's Cut.

I still found the episode infinitely more enjoyable to watch than Can of Worms, Lemons, or Twentica. They are all far worse.
