The most important thing is t' clitoris.
The most important thing is to spit o'her wrist.
    Like o'clock.

The most important thing is the clitoris.
The most important thing is the liquorice.
The most important thing is to lick her wrist.
The most important thing certainly isn't the time-wave.

Interestingly this is episode is rating very poorly on IMDB, which likely would be feed back Doug will notice. It seems many people even outside of the fanbase view this episode rather poorly aswell!

I have to admit, I could only find the clitoris joke funny if it were true - if, in real life, someone had misheard the line in such a bizarre way, that would be hilarious. Maybe it's an in-joke that no one else gets? Otherwise I'm completely puzzled as to how or why Doug came up with it!

Watched the episode on Dave last night with my boys, and they loved it so it was an enjoyable viewing experience for me. It looked a lot better on a larger screen too; I really liked how colourful it all was (yes, even the pink), and the diner set in particular looked excellent.

A thought that occurred: Lister's mention of the Tate Modern was funny. Well, it was a funny joke, but I mean also funny-strange. Didn't the Tate Modern (or Bankside Power Station, as it was previously known) stand-in for Starbug's engine decks in Psirens? Not quite a Coronation-Street level of meta, but still mildly interesting!

Guess this just goes to show that comedy is a case of different strokes for different folks! I actually thought the cheese-pot suggestion was a masterclass in comic writing.

For starters, it's a very plausible mishearing. G-spot and cheese-pot are virtually homophonous (in my accent at least).

Secondly - bearing in mind that people are stupider in sitcoms than real life - I think it's actually a more plausible misunderstanding. As a child, I was dimly aware that people sometimes used food in an erotic context, due to all the jokes about whipped cream, etc. (or even - in my beloved Red Dwarf - hummus). But I think I must have been quite old and jaded by the time it occurred to me that people might be gobbing on each other. Within the conventions and clichés of comedy, it seems quite possible that a naïve young man would expect a pot of cheese to be de rigueur for sex. Also, it's just a less nasty image than spit IMHO.

.....I found the Cheese-pot thing funny too. Much funnier then "spit on her wrist" ever will be!

    Perhaps...
The first rhyme Doug came up with was
"The most important thing is to slit her wrist" but then realised that was far too dark an image, so kept the joke but toned it down a bit
(at least it fits the sentence structure better)

It's sweet you think he even attempted to try any variant of it in a sentence. I suspect the joke began and ended with finding something that *almost* rhymed with clitoris and then just moving on to the next piece of hilarity... maybe the one about the saggy titties or something.

I think the clitoris thing was the finest piece of comic writing I've ever seen, no sorry, I meant to say that it was the worst piece of comic writing i've ever seen. What about the hilarity of a pink policeman? I was tensed in anticipation of the truncheon jokes potential of it, a 'pc' pc, oh what joy

As bad as that clitoris joke was, I'm sad to say I still doing even think it's the worst joke Red Dwarf has ever done. That dubious honour goes to that bit in Pete Part 2 when Hollister walks up behind Rimmer while insulting him, so he tried to pretend the potoato virus made him insane. Still, "Spit on her wrist" is still one of the show's very worst!

i personally claim cat saying 'you don't have to tell me twice', and then having to be told twice, as the worst joke ever. Its genuinely that bad, that i'm not even sure it in any way qualifies as an actual joke

Emohawk was a weak episode I general, jokes like that really didn't help. But I still think the Rimmer spasms pretending that it was the effects of the potatoe virus is just the most embarrassing unwatchable moment in the show.

What about the basketball game against the prison guards? I don't even know which episode it happens in, I tend to steer clear of Series 8 like the plague.
And the cat dancing with blue midget... ugh!

Pete Part 1 and Back in the Red Part 3.......there are just so many low points in series 8 that it's kinda hard to believe. Another series 8 joke worse then "Spit on a Wrist" was that "See you in 10 minutes" bit in Pete Part 2. I think though, it's bad that we are left comparing this episode to series 8, because in terms of qaulity (or lack there of) it fits almost seamless in with it!

Ah yeah that's the ones. I've tried to force them from memory. What about the Dibley Family? And Ackermam's missing eye...

I agree, a low point in the episode for me.
LOL, I thought that was HILARIOUS! Really....., you didn't like it?

Again..... I thought that was a great joke. I like the actor who plays Ackerman btw, I think he has good comic "timing".

The ammount of bad moments in series 8 is staggering, I mean it's shocking that as bad as this episode truely is.....I find it better then about half of series 8. I mean give how bad that series was Red Dwarf is honestly lucky that it still has a loyal fanbase, but if we get too many more episodes like this, I might just abandon ship!

Well, I don't think I could ever abandon ship lol, but I can take a lot of "bad" to get to the "good" in Red Dwarf. Yes, I thought it just a little too campy (and I LIKE camp!) and maybe focused a little much away from our crew but..... I thought there were some very good moments in this episode. I probably laughed more on my first viewing than any others from XII so far. Saying that, ........ not sure about this episodes ... wearablity if you know what I mean. Yeah, I laughed at this one most NOW, but how many re-watching will it stand? The Constable was hilarious but .... you know.

Besides.......... Isn't "draining" someone's "Criticism" in and of itself an explicit criticism?
