    Roberts just Tweeted:

"Although its early days I think you can expect 'Classic' Dwarf."

    Sounds smegging good to me.

(I thought this deserved a brand spanking new topic)

MOD EDIT - Have given the thread a new title to make clear that this has served as the "all-purpose" discussion thread during production!

What can I say, I was a bit too excited when I read what Robert had said and got a bit carried away, no harm done. But "Eep" is more than good enough for me, of course I wouldnt mind a bit of room service now and again ;-) *Takes foot out of mouth*

Just ignore Supercat, her bark (or should that be miaow or hiss?) is much worse than her bite.

I think we need a clicky here.

Not wanting to be a negative nancy but it should be noted that alot of the cast and crew thought series 8 was "classic Dwarf" and Robert always seems to love everything...he even comments on the DVD that Pete is a good episode!

im hoping that with the original 4 characters back with studio audiance and the starbug and bunkroom similar style set up to series 3 to 5 that its on the right track so far, now if we got model shots back (doubtful) id be 70% won over

series 8 was doomed from the momment they brought the crew back

I tweeted Doug Naylor on Twitter (@DougRDNaylor) asking if the new series X will be set on Red Dwarf or on Starbug, and he replied back saying 'Both'.

Fantastic, Doug Naylor said one word to me! I feel so alive!

I agree about the original 4 characters. I think that having to work with other characters is an often overlooked point when it comes to criticism of the later series. I enjoyed Tikka to Ride alot once the first few minutes were over (even given the continuity problems) and think it wouldn't have looked out of place in series six. I also enjoyed Back to Earth so am looking forward to what Doug can do with just the core cast in a traditional format, something we've so far only seen glimpses of.

Personally, I think it would have looked out of place. Tikka was very different in tone to series 6. The acting and characterisations had significantly altered for the worse (the Kryten/Lister scene after the opening titles being a case in point), as had the humour. I just can't imagine that rotten slapstick with Lee Harvey Oswald would have fit into series 6.

A good example of how the acting had changed from 6 to 7 is noting the difference between Kryten's subtle reaction in Gunmen when he puts his eyes back in and sees the Simulant for the first time and the absurdly over-the-top double take when realising they were in the Texas Book Depository.

My biggest worry about the new series is that the acting and humour are going to of the series 7 and 8 variety.
