Can't believe I forgot that. One of the best gags due to him setting up the line with his nervous goodbye speech.
I'm stealing this for when I leave my job.
KRYTEN: I presume you've heard the news about Miss Kochanski.
LISTER: What news?
KRYTEN: You haven't heard?
LISTER: Heard what?
KRYTEN: The news.
LISTER: What news?
KRYTEN: You haven't heard the news?
LISTER: Heard what news??
KRYTEN: No one's told you?
LISTER: Told me what?
KRYTEN: About Miss Kochanski?
LISTER: What about Miss Kochanski?
KRYTEN: About Miss Kochanski and her ex-boyfriend, Tim.
LISTER: What about Miss Kochanski and her ex-boyfriend, Tim??
KRYTEN: I can't believe you don't know!
LISTER: Know what??
KRYTEN: No one told you??
LISTER: Told me what!?
KRYTEN: You mean to say that you're standing there blissfully unaware of the news about Miss Kochanski and her ex-boyfriend, Tim?
LISTER: What news about Miss Kochanski and her ex-boyfriend, Tim!?
KRYTEN: I don't believe it.
LISTER: Believe what!?
KRYTEN: Psh, tsk - I'm so traumatised no one's had the guts to tell you the horrible, terrible, terrible, appallingly hideous, awful news! I'm not sure I can even speak now.
Has be belly laughing every time. Lister's building frustration is pitch-perfect and they know exactly when to wrap it up!
So what was the news? :P
Gotta be honest, not much of series 8 made me laugh (apart from the "all the canaries will be dead in one hour except for Rimmer..." line) and that is no exception. For me series 8 and 3 are the two weakest series comedy-wise. The jokes and stories are very rushed and, well, somewhat lazy in my opinion.
I agree, like much of Series VIII it didn't even raise a smile. That exchange dragged out for far too long IMO. I didn't think it was the weakest moment in that series, but I thought it was a pretty weak moment in a weak episode of the weakest series.
There's been a fair few moments in Red Dwarf for me, the reveal at the end of Queeg, the "car chase" of Back to Reality and (Just to show that I'm not completely against Series VIII) Killcrazy knocking himself unconscious as he charges through the hatch in Cassandra.
Kill Crazy was one of the few bright spots in series VIII. Well, that and Lister and Rimmer peeling potatoes.
I'd go as far as to say I thought Cassandra as a whole was the bright spot of Series VIII, if the rest of it had been that good I'd have been much happier with it.
Can't argue with that. The scenes with her were very much 'classic Dwarf'.
I'm afraid that I detest this whole exchange with a passion.
Just to add a bit of balance, I found t rather amusing.
The 'captain rewind thing" with the time-wand though. I found that a bit irritating and I'm not sure I get the joke.
I am not alone

In Only the Good, the way Cat tries to get himself hospitalised by blatantly stealing the dinner from the inmate sat next to him. It's not so much the joke itself, just the way Cat stuffs his face
Never knew such a thing existed...
