I have tried on several occasions previously to get on Mastermind doing Red Dwarf as my specialist subject but always failed the audition. I have finally been successful this year but was unfortunately told that they had already given Red Dwarf to someone else. So I'm doing a different sit com. The good news is that Red Dwarf will definitely be a specialist subject in the next series of Mastermind so that's something to look forward to.
Jon, welcome to the forum. Let us know when your episode is due to air and I'll make sure I give it a watch. Which sitcom are you doing? Btw, I'm sure that Red Dwarf also featured in a Mastermind round a decade or so ago.
Two people have done Red Dwarf on the show before: http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2003/09/19/master-mindpatch/index.cfm http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2013/02/08/mastermind/index.cfm (There might be more, but those are the ones we've reported on!) And Robert, Hattie and Danny have all been on the celeb version: http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2010/12/24/celebrity-mastermind/index.cfm http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2013/12/20/cat-stermind/index.cfm Thanks for the heads up, Jon! I'll keep an eye out for it so we can report on it on the site again. And we'll keep an eye out for your ep, too!
I'm doing the Inbetweeners, It's much shorter than Red Dwarf and half of it is swearing and the other half is sex talk so it's probably the easier subject but I'd have loved to have spent two minutes having Red Dwarf questions fired at me. I've met Katie who did Red Dwarf most recently, we played against each other on Only Connect.
When I was a kid I had like a board game called master mind where you had to put lots of little coloured balls in holes. I dunno what that was all about and looking back I dont think it had much to do with the show.
Remember that woman on front of the box I don't remember the coloured balls, I only remember the fat headed pegs
You're right. They were pegs not balls. Are you talking about this woman, Neil: I'm guessing mine had a different cover because I don't remember it.
Yep that's her. I always felt the box gave the game a continental edge . Funny, british culture in the seventies seems obssesed with continental style and elegance. Dunno if it was cheap holidays or something. But ads would have overly stylised upper class figures and settings, as would tv shows and the media. Seems odd now that continental somehow meant you were rich and classy
Lol I have two versions of Mastermind, one with four pegs and one with five. In fact, the one with five mentions being able to use 'no peg' as a color. Why?
don't remember that. Sounds like when board game companies repackage a box and game pieces in order to attempt to rebrand it, or get it to appeal to a more modern market. Like when you see the 50,000th version of the monopoly box
I recorded today and asked about the Red Dwarf set and was told it was being played in the episode after mine. These were at the end of the recording block so it's likely it'll be quite a wait til the Red Dwarf episode airs. They wouldn't let me see the questions for the Red Dwarf set unfortunately but will be fun to play along.
I can't give too much away but I will say that everything I was asked on my specialist round was something I'd noted as a potential question when watching the series.
I'm interested Jon, how did you Map out potential questions? did you look for dates mentioned, middle names, specific phrases, guest chatacters etc, and did you target any specific series or episodes, and what made you come to these decisions?
