This is the thread to share, learn and invent mnemonics. I predict it will be a hive of activity!!

Some to get the ball rolling:

"One collar, two sleeves" - an old one to help you spell "necessarily".

"Two cooks, one ladle" - I invented this bad boy to help me spell "broccoli".

"My very excellent method just set up nine planets" - this was a great way to remember the order of the planets, but either Pluto needs removing or else the other dwarf planets need adding.

"Oh, Edward! Ultra-violet rays everywhere!" - this helps you remember the second (harder) part of "manoeuvre". It doesn't work for American English and requires you to "fly solo" for M-A-N (but that's quite doable IMO).

Does anyone have any others :-)

I PP I SS ISS I M, still helps me to spell Mississippi, even though it's backwards.

I've never been much good at Mnemonics, I suspect for the same reason that I've never been any good at anagrams or cryptic crosswords. I think my brain just generally works in a more linear fashion, so I'm good at stuff like Sudoko (Which is basically just a process of elimination exercise) or quick crosswords, but anagrams or mnemonics either stump me or do nothing to help me. I've recently got used to the idea though that I just don't think quite like other people. Acronyms are different, oddly I can usually remember anything up to a 20 digit number, providing I write it down.

Jmc’s posts always make me feel incredibly thick (not just down below, but mentally too)

Our German teacher invented stupid mnemonic poem. Somebody told her it doesn't even rhyme and she said she is proud of it.

Jim Carey’s ‘B...e...a...UTIFUL’ comes in handy.

I used to use a very similar one for the planets, ‘My very educated mother just showed us nine planets’ I still consider Pluto a planet, what do those Astro-physicists know? Also the earth is flat.

Fall back and spring forward is a good way to remember which way to set your clocks.

I have a mnemonic system that I often say out loud to help me remember the cyclical order of my foreplay technique.

Please feel free to use it yourself if it helps?

Mouth. Outer Thigh. Hips. Earlobe. Repeat.
