Hello all, I am bored and near the town of Friend, Nebraska and it smelled like poo and so I decided to make a thread and this was the idea I came up with. What are some nice and not-so-nice things about the city/area you live in? Here's a couple of mine: Nice: The air is breathabler than pretty much anywhere else It's at the bottom of a massive hill, then right next to it is all the many massive mountains It is not New York City Not everybody is racist, in fact, a lot of people aren't racist The airport is far enough away from the city that I am not deafened by landing planes every half an hour There are loads of deer and foxes and such which are fun to watch People here are less of pricks than a lot of other places Nasty: It's more than a day trip to go see an episode of Red Dwarf recorded Around two hours north is one of the biggest cow farm areas in the world so every few years a storm blows in from the north and the whole city smells like poo for a few hours People are always whinging about their houses sliding down the hill when they aren't Semi trucks on the nearby mountain highways are much worse than on regular flat highways The airport looks like a swastika from the air This one time there was a mule deer orgy in my backyard The massive hill catches on fire every few years Other Assorted Things: 50 feet wide is a massive river here There is a massive street with pretty much anything you could imagine on it Weed is legal and there is a dispensary like five blocks away What about you?
Nice thread, Abe. Here are mine: Nice: The town is beautiful. Lot of historic buildings, mostly in gothic style. We have lot of nature here - parks, forests... The city transport is quite good here. It's the capital, co almost everything is here and you don't have to travel to another parts of the state. Almost all Red Dwarf fan events in my country take place here. It's still small town in comparsion with other world's capitals, so it's quite calm here. Nasty: It's more than a day trip to go see an episode of Red Dwarf recorded. The city road ring still isn't finish. Lack of P + R parkings. There aren't many modern buildings. City centre is too dirty in my opinion, although it's very beautiful. That's all I can say now, shortly after getting up. I will probably write some more.
Wouldn't that just make it an R? Same here, if I understand what you mean - a few years back, when the highway system was being built, they almost built us a beltway, and then just abandoned the project, so the state started on it, but then they stopped a quarter of the way around, so a few counties got together and built half of it as a toll road, then a couple more built another eighth, but that still leaves another eighth unbuilt, and it runs right over a massive nuclear waste site which has literally spontaneously combusted three times. So much for that idea... It means that on the west side of town we've got no good north-south highway and by the time you could bother to drive to one you might as well have just driven up a slow, crammed main road.
here, they opened first part in 1984, but now, there's still almost half unbuilt! They are planning to finish it in 2023 acording to Wikipedia...
Good things... Um let me think Its next to the sea which can be kind of nice I suppose. There is some good kebab shops The Chinese nearby is also good. Bad: There isnt much to do in the town The night life is crawling with scumbags. We always seem to be last to get internet improvements. No Tex Rimmer
Nice: The central part looks quite nice, quite French and pretty etc. It's on a commuter line, so trains to places are mostly easy. Nasty: The council estates. The people on the council estates. My damp flat. Some unusual air pollution problem here, that I don't understand. The cost of living is ridiculously high.
Nice: The local HMV has every episode of the Hit TV show Fraiser on DVD Nasty: It isnt Seattle. The setting for the Hit TV show Fraiser
My adopted home Louisville, Ky. Good: We have one of the best public park systems in the United States. The Belle of Louisville is the oldest working stern driven paddlewheel riverboat still going. Yep, it has a calliope and you can ride on it. Its a deep blue enclave in a deep red state. The bars stay open till 4 a.m., then open at 6 a.m. We have a thriving indie music scene. Bad: In a deep red state. We have some of the worst air pollution in the United States due to our natural location (Ohio Valley) and all the coal fired power plants both up and down stream of us. We all but live in a theocracy in Kentucky.
Good thread Clammy. Nice: It's a very nice location, just outside of London, close to Surrey, the M25 and Heathrow airport. It's close to a national park and the Thames so plenty of nice walks to be had. Nice pubs and restaurants, lots of choice and plenty of nice independent small businesses. It has a sort of hybrid between that metropolitan London feel and a village. It's quite a small town and I know loads of people, my road is a cull de sac and most of us know each other and get on well, however like I say it stilll has quite a buzz to it and the London buses, trains etc. Nasty: There really isn't anything that bad, sometimes the traffic is annoying and it can be a bugger even to park down my own road sometimes. It is very expensive also.
Nice: Large block of lands Nice view of the mountain range Most of the neighbours are friendly Local pub has really nice meals Nasty: No town water Only a pub and cafe in town and I never know when they are open. I sometimes go past the pub at 7.30pm at night when the pub should be open and see the locals sitting at the outside tables in the dark still drinking together Petrol and shops are all 30mins away in one direction and 20mins for petrol 50mins for shops in the other direction Highway is the only way in and out of town so if anything happens to close to highway at a certain point and the alternate route is 3+ hours so usually not worth it to try and go around. There is a cult compound that I can see from my house that they advertise as a resort but it is just three garden sheds surrounded by tall fences. When the first lot of fences went up I thought it was a garden to keep the kangaroos out until the second lot of fences and garden shed went up and the police started raiding them on a regular basis. Police are half an hour away if anything happens
Good Town not a city, so not packed with foreigners On Pennines, so terrific views/walks Close to Stoke and Manchester, so handy for a day out, or footy grounds Bad Chavs and manc overspill Drugs town Close to north cheshire, so ridiculously dear Unclean streets Jam packed solid with traffic all day Full of loud drunken knobheads
Neil, you've said some crazy things on this forum but putting 'close to Stoke' as a good thing tops the list.
