It maybe Chris playing his father? Would tie in with the "dual role" talk going round?

that would be weird giving we already seen his father in series 2, unless its a younger version of that but even then i dunno

and the talks of flashbacks could mean a recast younger rimmer

    Rimmer playing two roles?

Guys... guys... remember... we HAVE two Rimmers. We have original, and we have Nano-Resurrection Rimmer. And we don't quite know which one we have now...

Definately, as John Abineri who played Rimmer's Dad in Series 2 died in 2000.

Do you think maybe Rimmer was adopted? There has always been speculation that perhaps his Brother's didn't share the same Dad (Uncle Frank?) although having since met Howard I'm not sure what to make of that anymore.

It's looking more and more like a retcon for Rimmer! Blimey...have we got room for Captain Hollister in this message anymore?

Do you suppose the rogue droid is the courier?

Small review in the Metro where its a pick of the day:

"This comeback series has been a winner, with Rimmer (Chris Barrie) and co true to their original oddball form. Keen fans will know the very first Red Dwarf adventure was called 'The End' and with tonight's series finale titled 'The Beginning', things look sadly finite for the clapped-out old spaceship as it hides out in an asteroid, cornered by a fleet of Annihilators."

Apologies for the typos, my phone and I don't get along that well

Someone (bedfordfalls?) said they were convinced that the explosion in the opening credits is Red Dwarf, not the Simulant ship. I'd still be surprised if this was the case but that might explain the "things look sadly finite" comment in that review..

Didn't Chris Barrie play Rimmer's brother Frank in Timeslides? If that is right (can't remember 100%) then the characters were made to look the same and surely it would mean that they were both adopted and the only brother fathered by "Rimmer's dad" was Howard who looks completely different.(or the other way around).

I don't think that Howard looked that different, actually... he was obviously made up to look like a sibling (same hairstyle) and it seemed to me that he was mirroring a lot of Rimmerisms in his performance.

    Doug Naylor interview.

There are some questions about The Beginning with some spoilery elements. An alright read, all in all.

Maybe Captain Hollister's his real father? lol

Nah I know he's not, just thought I'd put that horrific thought out there.

I have to say, whilst it doesn't look so much like Mac in some of the newer photos I can't say it looks much like Richard O'Callaghan either. Still a welcome return if it is indeed him :-)

Man this is a hell of a big cast today? Some very intriguing character titles/names. Looking forward to Young Rimmer now. He definitely looks the part!
