Why isn't this in the news section ? :x
Friday is tomorrow...
Great to see Red Dwarf doing so well nearly thirty years after it was first broadcast.
The show has a loyal following, even if recent dwarf doesn't quite hold up as well as it used too.
Alternatively, series XI marks a return to form and is proving to be quite popular with general TV viewing audiences. :P

What's UKTV PLAY?
Yeah, it should be there.
Congratulations Red Dwarf XI, congratulations UKTV Play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what is it?
It's a white hole.
Why isn't this in the news section ?
Because the turnaround for writing, approving and publishing articles on this site is longer than half a day.
I see. Who has to approve it?
That monster with like twelve Seb heads that you see in the episode Officer Seb.
So was series 8 back in 1999 till the mid 2000s.
Yeah it did well in terms of viewing figures, which I don't personally find all that surprising given that it was an entertaining and well-made series which contained a few extra episodes than usual. Granted it's not held up so well in the minds of some hard-core fans, but that isn't of great surprise either considering how much it strayed from the original premise of the show.
I see what you're getting at, though. Some hardcore fans of whom no longer like series 8 may have thought it was awesome when it first aired. But I would suggest that one of the big differences between series 8 and 11 is that the latter manages to stay within the lines of the original premise whilst expanding on it in new and interesting ways. And is thus perhaps more likely to have longevity for both casual viewers and the majority of the hardcore fan base.
Series 10 was good and got the show back on track, but I personally feel that series 11 is quite special in that it significantly raised the bar, kicked much bigger bottom, and has something to please everyone...well, okay, almost everyone.
