They've gotten progressively smaller over the years. I'm re-watching season 1 right now and the "H" is large almost to the point of being comical. The best years for the "H" were series 5 through 7.

Not all that interesting really. Just some talk about Danny's audition for the role of Cat, and later on something about Dwayne Dibbley.

Pretty much just a variation on things I've heard him talk about before.

For anyone who can't access the trailer, I've uploaded it to my Tumblr blog. Should work fine.

The joke isn't bad though Rimmer's reaction seems a little odd, though I guess given the the time passed it's possible his lightened up a bit.

i think the thing that seems abit off about the clip is that chris is doing a sorta jeremy clarkson impression...

it comes across abit over the top and very dated in a show that set in the future

Reminds me of the mail call scene in the Series II episode Better Than Life, when he gets a letter from the inland revenue.

Good scene though. Like the last one, I'd suspect there's more to it.

I dunno, RD has always been "dated" for a show set in the future with all it's pop culture references.

First, needless dissection and criticism. I think, like the previous clip, this seemed a bit overacted. Maybe Chris is trying to (not unsuccessfully) emulate his acting from earlier series and my attention is drawn to the acting mainly due to the incongruity with respect to age; it seems a bit unrealistic for a 50 year old guy to behave like that. Maybe that's why, for the first time in RD, I much preferred Lister's characterisation in BTE. Craig's more mature acting nailed it, although this is as much (if not more so) the decision of the director as it is the actor.

Now the positives, which I feel far outweigh the negatives. The clip was funny. It made me laugh. What more do you want from a sitcom? It reminds us of the Rimmer/Lister dynamic that made Marooned such a good episode, and on reflection, Red Dwarf such a good series.

Rimmer's reaction reminds me of the scene in the second series where Rimmer demolishes El Skutto with his draughts skills. Although (more pointless grumbling) it seems a bit reused in the sense that the sorting mail gag has already been done in Better than Life with a similar result (Rimmer happy to get a letter, only to find it's a payment he has to make).

Maybe they put these throwbacks in to remind us of the series II feel they're trying to recreate?

NB. Overall I enjoyed it and it certainly makes me look forward to RDX. I was just overly critical for the sake of it.

I laughed, then I stopped and watched again, and laughed at the joke a second time. Any joke that gets a laugh twice passes by my standard. I'm not really worried about the so called "Over-acting" rimmer has always been a bit dramatic. No, I liked it... cant wait for rdx!!

Ironically though Rimmer here is impersonating Jeremy Clarkson who IS in his 50's and DOES act like that.....and who even more ironically looks far older then Chris Barrie does.
