Red Dwarf has a cult following in the UK and I expect there are fans in other English speaking countries too. However I also know that RD has been shown in other countries such as Poland (I think).

Does anyone know all the countries RD has been shown in? And does anyone know how successful/popular the series is in those countries? If there are any non-UK based fans on this forum I would like to meet you :-)

This actually got me thinking of something that happened to me a while back on holiday.

Sorry, UK person here so it's not too relevant, but here goes.

On holiday in Florida, and was wandering around Old Town - it's a shopping area which sells loads of stuff for tourists. It's actually not bad, though it's been ages since I've been there.

They've got a video shop (this was before DVDs), specialising in British comedy. Of course there's the usual - Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Bottom etc. These two American teenagers are in it, and I recall one of them saying "Wow, all this stuff's rubbish - who wants to watch British comedy when we do it so much better?", then turning to an assisstant and asking "Do you have any Red Dwarf?"

Red Dwarf was broadcast on NHK (think their equivalent of the BBC) in Japan a decade ago and was popular at the time. It has largely been forgotten since but I know Doug said he was hopeful of having RDX broadcast there.

The Czech Republic seems to be one of Dwarf's best territories now and there was a convention a couple of years ago I think.

Just remembered - my father and nephew both live in Australia and are currently enjoying RDX. Both were born in the UK however...

Bruce - I do remember an interview with Craig Charles once where he was in Japan (I think) and went to get something to eat. The restaurant owners saw him and beckoned him into the back room, where Red Dwarf was playing on the TV.

I am from the Czech republic and I can confirm that Red Dwarf was enormously popular here ! :-) A lot of people know it and have grown to love it (the dubbing is also absolutely brilliant and on point).
