I hope so.
Have to agree with you there.
i think it will be good glad there shooting it in front of a live audience,i hope to see norman come back as holly but my expectations are quite low after bte but i think they will get it right this time
all i can say is if they dont make a DIRECT sequel to season 8 ill throw my smeggin' TV out the window
It will be the best 3 hour run of TV since 1993 and better than anything from before 1993.
It will be a massive ratings success.
It will be a massive critical success.
We will find out which Rimmer it is and it will be the pre-VII version.
Episode 6 will be the best episode.
Episode 3 won't end up being controversial or offensive at all.
The wait between episodes will be interminable.
Start saving for a new TV right now.
if they dont make a direct sequel, then SCREW RED DWARF
I predict that Smoshed_dwarf will be disappointed.
I would quite like an answer to what happened though.
Ahh, gotta love TV viewers and their belief that they have any say / power / control over the content of the programmes they're meant to like.
I'd wager that if it's not a direct sequel to 8, you'll still watch it all and any other subsequent series anyway :P
And if you didn't, i'm sure the thought of losing you may impel Doug Naylor to ret-con series X just for you and make a series X.1, a direct sequel to series 8
We know what happend. They saved Red Dwarf with the antidote, Rimmer either died or smegged off and Kochanski got bored and left.
I agree a little, its not like ill start a RD Boycott campaign But the part about X.1 ,... Yeah not gonna happen 8)
But all i wanna know is seasons IX and X (the ones they talked abput in BTE)
and it wont be a S8 direct sequel
itll be a BTE direct prequal
The Red Dwarf IX & X they mention in Back to Earth didn't happen. They are merely constructs of the hallucination.
Adventures took place in-between Series VIII and BTE. It is just that these adventures are only "Series IX and X" in the hallucination. In our world, BTE is Series IX and the adventures that took place happened off screen.
Don't know if Doug has said it recently or if it was all the way back in April 2011, he said that he would give an explanation to what happened at the end of Series VIII but that he would wait a while and not spend the first 5 minutes of the first episode explaining what happened.
According to a recent tweet, he said you'll find out which Rimmer is in BtE and Series X in the sixth episode. Presumably that would include an explanation of what happened after Series VIII.
Holly isn't in it, according to the producer on Twitter. He also said there's no Duane Dibley or Ace Rimmer either, but he could have been lying...
I predict: It's going to be EPIC!
To be honest with Season 8 wrote themselves into a HUGE hole, I think it's for the best if the show does wipe the slate clean rather then be held back by the mistakes from the past. Infact that's a huge benefit they have this season (and even BTE) has with the fact it's over a decade later.
So long has passed that I think the Series VIII cliffhanger has to be forgotten about. I'm sure it will be addressed in an 'off the cuff' kind of way. Probably in dialogue between the characters or maybe ina flashback (although I'd rather they didn't go flashback route).
Series X is confirmed to be set after Back to Earth despite what is written on the back of the BTE box.
Wait, has it? I was under the impression it was set prior to BTE, and not because of what was stated in BTE. I thought I read somewhere it would link Series 8 to BTE.
No....BtE was a great big reset button for the franchise. A back to basics for Red Dwarf and her crew.
