So what? BTE was fun!
its funny that there has been 2 well known guest actors that apparently have spoken out as being fans of the show and yet none come to mind for me, where they been hiding?
excluding patrick stewart ;p
I didn't hear them say they hated him would agree that is not on.
I did not know that the guest star from last night was a red dwarf fan before they said so last night.
Ah that explains that then
I wouldn't say Gazpacho Soup's review was particularly negative but I get the impression that this was a very different type of Red Dwarf episode with possibly an idea or concept that could be considered quite controversial.
Out of all the set reports I've read, this episode seems to have intrigued me the most.
This one kinda sounds like it depends largely on how it comes together in the final edit.
True. But all the other episodes so far have been highly praised so I have no reason to doubt that this episode will be of similar quality.
Ganymede tv set report
Oh dear, another callback!
"There was one part where I felt my heart sing a little with a lovely VI reference!"
How very rude of them. :x
So far this appears to be the only episode that has had a bit of a mixed response, though obviously some aspects have been praised. The only thing that worries me about Doug writing on his own is there was only 3 episodes in VII and 4 in VIII that were great. While in X there was one that was a bit weaker in Dear Dave and even the finale which was pretty excellent relied on the aborted movie plot.
I guess my concern is that the 12 episodes to make the two new series is a massive demand on only 1 writer so maybe we have to accept there will be a couple of slightly weaker ones too. But still if only about half the episodes in 7 and 8 were strong and it tends to average out at 4 excellent ones in the Doug solo series does that mean that there will be 4 slightly inferior ones over the two new series.
I guess we'll have to see but anyway this is the only one that has had a "mixed" response and not as much popularity as the others so that is reassuring and even then people liked some of it. But I just hope the final 4 episodes can garner as much praise and adoration as the previous lot and we are due 4 more strong ones and not due another 3 not so great ones. Anyway we'll see and ultimately I can't prejudge anyway until I see it on the TV myself. But fingers crossed for the rest of the XII eps to be better received.
I think at this point we will have to accept that this has always been an issue with Doug's solo writing and probably always will be. I think what we have to hope for is that the episodes themselves are creative and well written enough to stand on their own.
I wish I knew what you were talking about?
Unless he is recyling old jokes how exactly is it an issue?
Back references in the last couple of series have been pretty awkwardly bad
If this is one of the weaker ones then we are in for an excellent couple of series
Craig rushed out to get to his gig that night as the recording went on about 40 minutes longer than normal. It's happened on a few recordings now.
Without wishing to second guess what my better half was referring to there, I'm pretty sure that what she was talking about was a subverting of a reference. It worked pleasingly well.
