Does anyone know if the uniforms worn in Series VIII were real, or were they made specifically for the show. I mainly want to know about the jackets that Rimmer and Kochanski wore, with the clasps/buckles down the front.

    Thanks.

No, apparently, the weren't real. It was just computer animation. All the actors played naked and the uniforms were then animated onto their bodies. (That's why there was no raw footage on the DVD.)
Advanced CGI is typical for season VIII. All the effects were CGI. For example, the dinosaur. I thought he was real, but it was just a computer animation.

I love it when people wait for 12 years to post anything, then just saunter in and drop a gold bomb

No, it was an important question and needed to be asked but just a bit more clarity in the question is needed. What exactly do you mean by "Are uniforms real?" for example are they modelled on some historical uniform or were they real in a material sense or CGI ? I would love to help answer your question but can you be more precise about what you ask.

Re reading your OP, I would say the answer you are looking for is that they were made for the show.

I've got nothing to add, but everyone else was quoting this post so I thought I'd do the same.
