Re-watching the series recently I noticed that quite a few of the episodes start with Lister either asleep or in bed.

    Give and Take: In Bed
    Officer Rimmer: Sleeping
    Krysis: In bed
Can of Worms: Sleeping (the first we see of him anyway)

In Samasara he's in his PJ's as well.

Someone else pointed out that Einstein is mentioned in most episodes, can anyone think of any other running themes?

Callbacks! (not in a bad way).

Twentica - "To travel back into the past to change the present" - "That's a bit old-hat, isn't it? How many times have we seen that before...?"

Samsara - "It's based on the old Justice World tech, where the pain an individual inflicts on another is redirected back on them..."

Give and Take - time travel using stasis is a callback to the precedent set in Stasis Leak

    Rimmer - another multi-Rimmer episode

Krysis - we visit the Nova 5's "sister ship", and the story has undertones of Beyond and Joke and Inquisitor

Can of Worms - Polymorph 3!

In every episode is a guest ship.

    Twentica - expanoids' ship
    Samsara - SS Samsara
Give and Take - Mine (and Snacky's) space station
    Officer Rimmer - SS Nautilus
    Krysis - Nova 3, GELF's ships, S.I.U. station
Can of Worms - Mercenoid's ship
