So when are people going to admit that series X

1,2,4 and 10 are all number 1 in my list, so you can't really swap 1 and 2 except for possible aesthetic reasons...? ;-)

    I'll edit my list...

    Right now...

    1 - Series 6
    2 - Series 2
    3 - Series 1
    4 - Series 10
    5 - Series 3, 4, 5
    6 - Series 7
    7 - Series 8
    8 - BTE

So, I would say series X is great and I wouldn't want to be without it!

X was a new series at the time which is what fans could have only dreamt of after BTE. So it was hit and miss for many people but it's success ultimately paved the way for XI and XII. Can't fault that!

It depends whether Series X has the staying power since with Series 8 for example i remember around 2001 the fanclub magazine had a thing where people nominated on each series and overall the top series and this was pretty much how people felt about it at that time

Now these days i noticed most don't really think all that much of 8 anymore, so overall it depends on the staying power of series X

I mean even series 7 is quite high there also.

Those stats are quite surprising. Definitely didn't match my small social circle's opinion which I know doesn't represent the world. I wonder if those would have been the same results if the internet was as widely used back then as it is now.

    1. Series 6
    2. series 3
    3. series 4
    4 series 1
    5. series 5
    6. series 2
    7. Series 10
    8. Series 7
    9. Series 8
    10. BTE

Although series 1-6 are quite interchangeable year by year for me
and series 7/10 are very close in quality if not in style and content.
8 had a handful of funny moments and that's about all.
BTE just wasn't my thing for Red Dwarf but it did re launch Red Dwarf back to our screens so for that reason I'm glad it exists

It'll be interesting to see where series 11 ranks for me.

This more or less backs up my theory that a lot of the S8 "hate" on this forum and other online forums perhaps has more to do with what is "popular opinion" and less to do with "individual opinion." Meaning, I think many people hate on S8 because it's the "in" or "trendy" thing for "real" Red Dwarf fans to do.

While the above poster wonders what the results would have been if the Internet was as widely used back then as it is now, I wonder just the opposite-- what the results would be like today, if the Internet WASN'T as widely used as it is.

That or series 8 just doesn't hold up in the long run or repeated viewings

Every new series tends to get alot of love due to hype, even the people who see it live talk about how great it is but in repeated viewings tends to lessen the appeal sometimes if the show doesn't hold up.

i can't say i ever liked series 8, i remember i kept watching it hoping it would grow on me because i didn't wanna dislike the series but after a while i gave up trying.

Series 8 is decent enough but just not a patch on other series. But anyway, average Red Dwarf is still tons better than virtually all other comedies around!

Series X is very inconsistent in terms of quality for me. It has some moments that are truly awful, and both "Entangled" and "Dear Dave" rank amongst the worst ever episodes of Dwarf. "The Beginning" though, is one of my fave Dwarf episodes of all time. Overall, it's definitely weaker than the first 6 series, but holds it's own with 7, and is better than both Series 8, and the awful Back To Earth.

Series X is just about on par with Series 7 I think.

Seeing people ranking Series V under Series X just makes me think they've gone slightly mad. Like in Psirens when Lister says "He's my best mate isn't he?" about Rimmer and Kryten says "Sir, you are sick".

    Series V
    Series II
    Series VI
    Series III
    Series I
    Series IV
    Series X
    Series VII
    Series VIII
    BTE

I have a feeling Series XI will be just above Series X but it has a long leap to make to nudge any of the first six series out of their spots.

I think this is how I'd rank all the series:

    III
    I
    VI
    IV
    V
    II
    X
    VII
    VIII
    BTE
