It's officially Christmas when the coca-cola truck advert comes on tv:

    MERRY CHRISTMAS

Noooooo! I've done my Christmas shopping, therefore Christmas is over. I can start focusing on Easter.

It is not even Thanksgiving yet. Oh, I guess you all don't have Thanksgiving . But its xmas full blown here too, my sister already has her outdoor lights up and on. Same with the tree (already up and ornamented), the indoor decorations (dioramas, wreaths, lights, etc.) I like Thanksgiving myself and am sorry to see it getting crowded out by xmas.

I'm still trying to decide if I will put Christmas decorations up this year. I did not last year. I have not seen any coke adds yet this year

We've already got 24/7 xmas music channels/stations. All the stores are playing holiday music too.

thanksgiving, we used to have something similar in blighty called 'harvest festival', it's disappeared now though. It was never a real big day as such, but kiddies would deliver baskets of provisions to the old people in their areas of residence, of course, such a kind act has naturally long since disappeared

you are supposed to do the decorations 12 days from Christmas by tradition, hence the 12 days of Christmas song to, so that'd be the 12, or 13th dependant

Oh gawd, I remember the Harvest Festival! When I was much younger, we used to use our local hall, bring in tins of fruit and veg, and whatever else, put them into boxes, and the elderly received the boxes. I'm sure my father was once a recipient of one.

yes. that was it pretty much to a tee. Remember those loaves of bread shaped into sheaves of corn then varnished rock hard? Still it was a good thing. I used to love delivering them and see the joy on the pensioners faces at receiving them, and the joy of them seeing kiddies do such a thing. It's a big pity if it still doesn't happen

I don't recall the rock hard bread... oh wait a minute, I think I do. I had to think about that for a moment. I never saw the children delivering the boxes, I always thought the adults did that. Still it seemed nice of the kids. :-)

I love the idea of Thanksgiving. Even the name has such a positive vibe. Perhaps we should initiate a Thanksgiving in Britain. But it is a bit close to Crimbo.

We do still have harvest festival, but it's mostly a school event where the kids take everyone's unwanted tins of soup round the old folks home or a church event where the church goers take some Alphabetti Spaghetti to the food banks.

Tbh I think it would be much better if they just sent the coke trucks round to the old people and had Santa hand out the little tins of coke along with all the nearly expired tuna etc.

The 12 days of Christmas are from Dec 25th to 5th Jan, that’s when you’re ‘meant’ to have decorations up, but there’s no real rule.

Oh, I always thought it was before in the run-up. Seems odd the other way, making the first day pretty much the last day. Seems more sensible my way
