Love Red Dwarf but these episodes were quite poor.
One or two flashes of humour but generally seemed pretty flat. Even the acting seemed to lack a certain something.
As long as it leads to more RD then fine but the writing really has to improve.
When Rimmer left to be replaced by Kochanski I thought that the show took a turn for the worse - I think someone has already said or at least hinted at this - keep Kochanski out of it!
Oh and before I forget, where was Holly?
Good and very welcome, but it needed laugher (an audience). Let's hope and pray that Dave make enough from DVD (domestic) and foreign TV sales to make a new series a certainty. All we know is that Back to Earth wasn’t cheap to make, and the only way that a new series is going to be made is if the BBC will back a new series or if DAVE finds the cash. That said, they got their money’s worth. How many times was the series repeated this weekend?
Feedback from this forum has been great. One idea I have is for the producers invite new, guest writers (fresh blood) and perhaps we can suggest an idea or two ourselves…
…Just a Suggestion.
I dont believe Kochanski degraded the series, The problem with the series arose upon her introduction because the conflict moved suddenly away from 'Rimmer vs Lister' and moved towards 'can Lister get Kochanski'.. so shes been the unfortunate focus of blame. if Rimmer became more of an antagonist again, that old spark that everyone loved from the originals will immediately return. eg. whats the point in watching a sensitive new age Blackadder.
Bad. Laugh gap after laugh gap.
I had a few issues but on the whole, I liked it!
Good. My only issue was the cringeworthy part in the cornation street corner shop.
Low on jokes, the whole Blade Runner referencing thing just made me go "Well... that was pointless" but overall I thought it was pretty strong.
started ok, went bad but saved by using another dispair squid story to explain that it never really happened.
As mentioned before, I think the lack of a laughter track made it seem a little flat, but the storyline was up there with the best episodes. Visually looked fantastic, and can't wait to get it on DVD (or preferably blu-ray please!).
Fingers crossed this is just the start of a new era.
tally so far:
Keep it up! This is a very positive response so far. I'm sure Doug et al are very happy at the response this has received.
Loved it when it was shown as a 3 parter!! much better:P
That was one of the funniest scenes for me! Espcially Rimmer channelling Vera Duckworth. The slapstick stuff at the end make me cringe though.
Overall: Good. With some reservations.
Sorry I was so looking forward to this and I was unbelievably disappointed!
Think it was just the storyline though.. why on earth make them beleive they are TV charactors.. Completely ruined it for me!
good. i absolutely loved it. more more more more!
