I agree with a bunch of these, but particularly with how many of you see Quarantine as the best of Series V. It's such a stand-out episode and I can't quite put my finger on why, although I will try.

I think maybe it's the closest the show gets to horror/thriller territory in parts, with the Dr. Langstrom scenes especially disturbing to my young mind at the time. The 'What's dead and dead and dead? Yooooooou' has stuck with me for a surprisingly long time. But it's also got some of the best jokes and a real beginning-to-end narrative. Red Dwarf at its best.

    1. Me2 - I think this is where the characterisation suddenly clicked, especially with Rimmer
    2. Thanks for the Memory - this is just a lovely little story
    3. Marooned - my only complaint about this is that I wish it was 3 times longer!
    4. Dimension Jump - what a hilarious character Ace is, and it's interesting to see how every little thing that would be a problem for Rimmer is an "opportunity" for Ace
    5. Back to Reality - need I say anything?
    6. Gunmen of the Apocalypse - two stories in one, and you actually forget about the main story (flying towards a volcanic moon) until the other one (Western) is resolved!
    7. N/A
    8. Krytie TV - I know it's crap but I think it's the least crap of s8

Have you never seen series 7, or do you consider it so bad you don't want to pick a favourite episode?

    1. The End: Love the Everbody's Dead segment, and its where it all began! So this one clinches it for me.
    2. Queeg: Great to see a Holly based episode, and I will never foget my first viewing when I didn't know the twist. HILARIOUS.
    3. Backwards: One of the great "SciFi Heavy" episodes. The premise is great, the execution more so. And who can forget the reversed Manager's rant?!
    4. Dimension Jump: Not usually a fan of Ace or Dwayne, but much like Chris Barrie himself states in reference to the wig... this is the only time the character fit just right. Very funny episode, interesting character, and some real development for old Ironballs!
    5. Back to Reality: widely regarded as the best ever episode and IMO definitely the best in Series V. strong SciFi concept, but also lots of fun and humour, the Confusion of "William/Billy Doyle" and the driving on chairs. I still laugh at that now!
    6. Gunmen of the Apocolypse: A bit of a guilty pleasure of the RD world for me. Its one of those episodes I like but also dislike. Its got a good idea, and the visuals are fantastic, and yet a lot of the jokes fall flat. However, Weighing it up, I still rate it top of series VI for its clever plot and stunning location.
    7. Blue: OK, I admit it. I LOVE the Rimmer Experience. Its corny, its cheesy, but no more so that Tongue Tied, and thats one of my favorite moments! The opening scene is also hilarious. I really like Blue.
    8. Back in the Red III: I rank 8 slightly higher than 7 simply because its somewhat a return to the red dwarf from series 1. The problem of course was that we'd moved on a lot from Series I and series VIII regressed the characters back a bit, made them less mature. Back in the Red III to me, is the only example of a series VIII episode that feels like the same characters from series Vi and VII. And no, I don't like the blue midget dance either, but its not as bad as Krytens pet Penis.
    9. Directors cut. I refuse to pick a part of BTE, as I think they're terrible in parts. It wasn't until I got the DVD and saw the whole thing that I appreciated it fully. I quite like it. I'm glad that series X seems to be returning to the Sitcom style, but the comedy drama style was a welcome change. In hindsight, it was what it intended to be, a nostalgic special to look back on a programme they never expected to make more of.
