I saw this years ago on Youtube I think. Hinton Battle is terrible, and Chris Eigeman is even worse.

Isn't it strange to see people you don't recognise referring to each other as 'Rimmer' and 'Lister'?

A change of actor and they still haven't got the Rimmer character right.

Rimmer seems like he's Lister's best mate :-D

It was OK when Lister woke up from his deep sleep in the British version, but C'mon

8))In all fairness, I found one bit funny (The Cheapo Comment:-(

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwYZA6cNJ9c

    But it was:

    1) Right at the end of the titles

    2) Sped by too fast for anyone to see (except for this person who slowed it down 8) )

If a series had gone ahead, the British version may well have ended with series 5, which is a frightening thought.

Just imagine: no Gunmen, no Legion, no Out of Time, and no Back to Earth.

Mind you, we'd have been spared the dancing Blue Midgets...

It would have been good to see where a US series would have gone, but I'm sure that the gags are MUCH better in the British version :-D

I thought Bierko's delivery was actually pretty good in that scene though. He is certainly a different Lister to our Craig but he works in his own way.

Craig Bierko was not a slobby sort of guy in the same way Craig Charles plays Lister (anyone find it funny that the US version had a Craig as Lister and a Chris as Rimmer?), but he had pretty good comedy timing and he was likeable. Plus he was kind of relaxed in a way you could believe he was a bit of a dreamer and not a man of action with ambition etc, so he could've worked as Lister. There's a funny bit in one of the pilots when after finding out he's been in stasis for 3 million years, his reaction is "My baseball cards must be worth a fortune!" A nice American spin on the situation, and he plays it well.

Bierko was much too clean and handsome to play a convincing Lister. They should have cast a John Belushi-type, as Danny mentions in the Dwarfing USA documentary. Obviously they couldn't have got Belushi himself on account of his being deader than Rimmer.

Some sit-coms just don't work when changed from the original cast for remakes.

The Pilot looks like a joke! Like a Garth Marenghi style show. Rimmers delivery is so wooden "its not the career setback it used to be" shocking.

They took all the humour out of the wilman flintstone scene to. It's supposed to be Lister and Cat and its funny because they are both on the same wavelength and acting as if its completely normal.

Rimmer plays it differently, thank god it failed.

I actually havent seen the whole pilot before
Its alright for what it was but the jokes wernt that funny
Perhaps im used to the original but there were too many gags reused from The End that were turned american and done badly

"You wrote I Am A Fish 400 times, did a funny little dance an fainted"
    or
"You go in, read the questions, have a major anxiaty attack and faint"
    i could go on

best line in the whole thing for me was
"Oh im sorry, you want to be dumped in private. how insensitive of me"

    a Kryten line

I did like the line that Kryten delivered when he was just a head in that closet.

Lister: "You've been stuck here for three million years? What have you been doing?"

Kryten: "Well, I've been reading that Fire Exit sign over there."
