DVD Box Set Announced

Details of the Series 1-4 DVD box, out in October.

27 August, 2004

With the individual Red Dwarf DVDs leaving the shelves like hot cakes (though cooler to the touch), it may seem a strange time to launch a Series 1 to 4 box set. But this isn't what you might have been expecting. At all.

Rather than whack the extras-laden two-disc sets into a box - which no doubt would have annoyed those who patiently bought each series as it was released - Red Dwarf: Just the Shows - Volume 1 gives the casual fan a chance to pick up the episodes without any bonus material. Just the Shows - does exactly what it says on the tin... er, box.

Digipack box art

Pictured here is the digipack box art for the four-disc set, which is now scheduled for release on October 18th with a recommended retail price of £34.99.

Disks Covers

Also pictured are the main DVD menus for each series. As with the box art, a deliberate attempt has been made to keep the style of these releases separate from the main - to let them stand alone. The single-screen menus will not be animated, and though there will be atmospheric background sound, this is about as 'vanilla' a release as it's possible to get.

Series I Menu Series II Menu

Still, Red Dwarf is Red Dwarf and Just the Shows - Volume 1 is very much designed for those who use bonus discs as coasters. It's a chance to get straight to the episodes as seen on TV - and a handy back-up for the Red Dwarf fan looking to "travel light, move fast"!

Series III Menu Series IV Menu

In the meantime, Series I, II, III and IV are still available in two-disc sets, packed with commentaries, documentaries, outtakes, deleted scenes and featurettes. Series V is due out on November 8th in both the regular form and as a gift set with Corgi's brand new Starbug model.
