Craig's Coming Home

Funk and Soul event on Liverpool's waterfront this summer.

9 May, 2014

For someone who hails from Liverpool, it's interesting how much of his working life Craig Charles seems to spend further up the M62 in Manchester - whether filming Coronation Street during the week, or his Funk and Soul Show for BBC Radio 6Music at the weekend. Next month, however, Craig will be making a triumphant public appearance in his home town as part of a weekend-long festival that celebrates both the city's maritime and musical heritages.

Craig's Coming Home

The International Mersey River Festival is a weekend of entertainment that will take place from Friday 13th - Sunday 15th June 2014, in and around Liverpool's famous Pier Head waterfront site. As well as seeing the arrival of several famous tall ships into Liverpool's docks, the festival includes the weekend-long Music on the Waterfront event - and proceedings will be kicked off by none other than Craig.

The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Homecoming will be a free concert hosted by 6Music on the Friday night, and they promise it will be "the funkiest night of music the Liver Birds have ever heard!" After an introductory session courtesy of BBC Radio Merseyside's hosts, Craig "will take to the stage for a homecoming show, bringing with him some very special friends to perform live, and of course his trunk of funk to share some of the best funk and soul music around. And then to make sure the evening ends with a bang, it will be wrapped up with one of Craig's legendary DJ sets."

A Craig-powered DJ set is indeed one of the best ways we can think of to round off a night of music - the only thing we're not sure about is how the following two days of the festival will match up...
