Radio Dwarf

Show's theme to feature on Howard Goodall's radio special.

20 June, 2014

Fans of Howard Goodall will no doubt already be aware of the Red Dwarf theme tune maestro's weekly radio show on Classic FM, Saturday Night At The Movies. If you're not, then it's best summarised as a regular journey through the very best in movie scores and soundtracks, both classic and recent. Oh, and it's on Saturdays. Obviously.

This week, however, Howard's doing something a little different, turning his show over to an exploration of television scores and theme tunes - and as a TV composer of no small repute himself, it's perhaps unsurprising that it will include some of his own work. Here are the details from Classic FM:

This week, Howard Goodall switches on the television and celebrates some of the great music written for programmes across the decades.

First up, Howard looks at great period dramas - ranging from Downton Abbey to The White Queen, via Brideshead Revisited and Foyle's War.

Some great moments from Doctor Who follow with music from three classic stories - Terror of the Zygons (1975), The End of the World (2005) and The Angels Take Manhattan (2012).

There's also a look at crime shows - from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy to Broadchurch - and some new releases including Game of Thrones, Vikings 2 and House of Cards 2.

Howard cheekily also features two of his own best compositions for TV - music from Red Dwarf and The Vicar of Dibley.

So if you want to hear the majesty of some of Howard's Red Dwarf score being played out of your radio, tune in to Classic FM on Saturday 21st June at 5pm - or catch up with it on the website afterwards. We don't yet know exactly what Dwarf piece Howard's going to play - whether it'll be the original or later theme tune, or even if he'll go more left-field and choose one of his brilliant incidental cues - but it's worth tuning in to find out!
