Carpool Returns

New episodes of Robert's webseries on the way.

8 August, 2014

If you cast your minds back through the mists of time, to the forgotten land that was early 2009 - you know, back in those poor deprived days when new Red Dwarf hadn't been on television for a decade - you might recall Robert Llewellyn launching a brand new weekly YouTube series called Carpool. These days, the world and his wife are out there doing regular webseries, but back then, Robert was quite the pioneer in doing so.

Carpool Returns

A charming chat show in which Robert gives a celebrity or other figure of note a nice eco-friendly lift in his car, and has a relaxed conversation with them along the way, Carpool ran for nearly three years, racking up over 100 episodes - and even spun off into a TV version courtesty of RDF Television and broadcaster Dave (remember them?) It's since been on hiatus while Robert's been off doing various other projects (novels, other webseries, and some TV show or other), but is now due for a return! Hurrah!

In a special one-off episode released recently, Robert interviews comedian Mark Thomas, but it's prefaced with an announcement that a brand new series of episodes is in the process of being recorded, and will start to go online later this year. Robert also explains a slight change to the show's format, and debuts what looks like a new title sequence for the show, reminiscent of his other webseries Fully Charged.

If you've never caught up on Carpool before, you can see all the (non-television) episodes on YouTube.

In particular, here are links to all the Red Dwarf cohorts he's so far managed to persuade into the passenger seat of his Prius:

There's no confirmed date for when the series will return, but as ever keep an eye on Robert's Twitter feed for announcements.
