Dead Roots

Zombie comic features Red Dwarf alumni.

What links Red Dwarf and the zombie horror genre? If you answered "Caroline Carmen"... well, alright, that's correct. But there's another answer, too: the horror comic anthology Dead Roots.

Dead Roots

Inspired by the success of The Walking Dead, the zombie comic genre has been growing in popularity over the last few years - but Dead Roots is a fresh take on the concept, exploring the opening hours of a zombie outbreak in a series of otherwise-unconnected vignettes that vary hugely in style, tone and scale.

So what's this got to do with Red Dwarf, you might ask? Well, two of the stories in the book just happen to have been written by talent who've worked on our favourite show: that is, Series VII writer Paul Alexander, and script editor (and former website author) Andrew Ellard! Other writers in the anthology include Green Wing's James Henry, and Doctor Who/Torchwood scribe James Moran.

Dead Roots was funded by Kickstarter crowdfunding in 2013, and initially only available directly from the creators - but it's now been made available on the Comixology digital comics platform, meaning you can buy and read the entire thing in an easy-to-digest for your tablet, PC or phone straight away.

And while you're in the mood for comics, should we remind you of Andrew's comics-scripting debut: that is, the series-bridging Prelude to Nanarchy, available exclusively right here on reddwarf.co.uk? Yes, we think we rather should...
