S-F-X You Know I Want It
New magazine covers - and special edition supplement!
15 September, 2016
This may make some of you feel quite old, but the British sci-fi magazine SFX has now been running for over twenty years. In that time, Red Dwarf has made a few cover appearances - going all the way back to 1996's issue ##14, which featured a lovely shot of Kryten - and the favour was even returned when the mag appeared in the show, courtesy of a special Back to Earth edition in 2009. But to celebrate Red Dwarf XI, they're giving the series what might be its most comprehensive bit of coverage ever.
Head on out to your local newsagents now, and you'll find not one, not two, but four different covers to November 2016's issue #279, one for each of the main characters - and inside, there are exclusive interviews with all of Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn, Danny John-Jules and Doug Naylor, as well as a preview of Series XI. Existing subscribers to the mag, meanwhile, should be about to receive their very own special cover featuring all four characters at once.
But that's not all, either, as the mag also comes with a free special edition supplement! Titled The End to the Beginning, the bonus magazine celebrates the entire first twenty-eight years of the show, with an in-depth look at the whole of Red Dwarf history. Not bad at all for just a fiver - and if you don't manage to get your hands on a print edition, you can also read the whole thing via digital magazine services on iOS and Android.
Of course, it would be remiss of us not to point out that every issue of SFX is jammed with all the sci-fi, fantasy and horror-related goodness you could want each month - but it's an especially good issue when it's got our Boys from the Dwarf on the front. Hopefully the next time they get the full-cover treatment won't be quite so long a wait...
