Points Of View
Fans have their say on Red Dwarf XI.
7 October, 2016
We can't believe we're already past the halfway point of Red Dwarf XI's run. Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it? If we didn't already have a Red Dwarf XII to look forward to next year, we'd almost be starting to feel bereft.
With three episodes of the current series still to air, though, it's increasingly apparent that this eleventh run has been knocking your socks off - with reviews and fan comments all around the place paying testament to the hard work and creativity of the crew and cast.
Last time around, we brought you a range of quotes from press and web critics as they gave their opinions on episode two, Samsara. But this week, we've been particularly struck by the fan reaction to the third episode, Give & Take, which previewed on UKTV Play last week before airing on Dave last night.
While we've been thrilled by the reaction to every Red Dwarf XI episode so far from the online fanbase, there really seemed to be something about this one that struck a chord, and brought glowing tributes across social media, forums and fansites alike. Here are just a smattering of the positive comments:

And those were just the reactions of those who watched it online. Last night, during the actual Dave broadcast, Twitter positively exploded with Red Dwarf XI chat - to the extent that #CaptainBollocks gave us our second trending topic of the series so far (and hopefully, a few of those people will have rushed out to buy the t-shirt immediately afterwards)! There were far too many comments to list here, but check out the @RedDwarfHQ timeline for a selection of the best, and the #RedDwarfXI hashtag for a fuller picture.
Phew. We'll stop there, in case we get too big-headed, but you get the idea: we're already in "beloved classic" territory. Which is lovely. It's always been our aim to bring you new Red Dwarf that lives up to your expectations of an action-packed, character-driven sci-fi comedy - and it sounds like so far, those expectations have been met.
