American Dwarf
Series XII goes "day-and-date" on BritBox!
6 October, 2017
Red Dwarf has been beloved in the USA for almost as long as it's been running, thanks to a long and proud tradition of being shown on PBS stations. But whenever there's a new series, that inevitably brings with it the question from fans across the pond: "When will we get to see the episodes?"
With Series XI, we were able to bring transatlantic fans the new episodes remarkably quickly, with a DVD and Blu-ray release almost as soon as the series was finished. But for Series XII, we're going one better: for the first time ever, new episodes of Red Dwarf will be available in the USA on the day they're broadcast in the UK.
It's all thanks to a deal with the recently-established BritBox - a streaming service supported by BBC Worldwide and ITV, which offers a massive range of UK TV shows to US viewers for a startlingly cheap $6.99 per month. The first eleven series of Red Dwarf are already available on the platform - but from next week, you'll be able to see Series XII exclusively on there too.
Due to the differences in time zones, we don't know exactly what time the episodes will become available in the US - but each one should appear on the same day as, or at the most within a day of, their broadcast on Dave. For those who don't know, those dates are as follows:
- Cured - October 12
- Siliconia - October 19
- Timewave - October 26
- Mechocracy - November 2
- M-Corp - November 9
- Skipper - November 16
BritBox is available on the web, Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV (4th Generation or Airplay to older models), iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. You can also subscribe via Amazon Channels to access on Fire devices. A subscription costs $6.99, and there's also a 7-day free trial option.
And, in case we needed to tell you, it's only available in the US. But if you're in the UK, don't forget that you can watch the first episode right now for free on UKTV Play, so you can't complain too much...
