Strictly Come Danny

Red Dwarf's feline star hitting the BBC dancing show!

17 August, 2018

Well, this is the kind of news that as soon as you hear it, makes all kind of planets-aligning type sense: Danny John-Jules has been announced as one of the stars of the upcoming series of the hit BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing!

In case you're somehow unaware of the Strictly phenomenon, it sees celebrity contestants teamed up with professional dance partners to compete in a dancing competition, with each pairing judged by the show's expert panel (and voted on by viewers at home) before an ultimate champion is crowned.

Amusingly, in announcing Danny's participation, the Strictly website saw fit to ask "So we know he can act, but can he dance?"

Well, let's just say:

... and also:

Yeah, we're pretty sure he can dance. But the ballroom and Latin styles of dancing seen on Strictly are still a different kettle of fish from what he's used to, so we'll be intrigued to see how he adapts to the show.

He's not actually the first Red Dwarf cast member to appear on the show, either - Don Warrington made it to the fifth week in 2008; while Anita Dobson got through eight rounds in 2011, and Helen George was a popular contestant in 2015. And most famously, Jake Wood almost went all the way in 2014 before being eliminated in Week 12.

Can Danny be the first Dwarfer to win Strictly? We wouldn't rule it out, and we'll be cheering him on when the show runs throughout Autumn this year!

Strictly Come Dancing starts on BBC later this year.
