Convention-al Wisdom

Keep tabs on the Dwarfers for the rest of 2019...

6 September, 2019

The nights are just gradually starting to draw in, bringing summer to an end - but as far as the sci-fi convention circuit goes, autumn still has plenty of life in it. And the cluster of events that are taking place nationwide between now and the end of 2019 have, as is the norm, got a decent collection of Red Dwarf guests for you to catch up with.

Convention-al Wisdom

Here's where to find some of the names that may still have eluded your autograph collections...

Coming up this very weekend (7-8 September) is Film & Comic-Con Cardiff, taking place at the Motorpoint Arena. At this event will be Hattie Hayridge, but note that she's appearing on Saturday 7th only! Day tickets are £8 for standard entry (£4 children) or £15 for early entry, and Hattie's autographs and photos will cost £10 each.

The following week, it's time for Film & Comic-Con Exeter, at the Westpoint Arena, where you can meet Series XII's Hitler himself, Ryan Gage! Ticket prices are the same as the Cardiff event, but Ryan's auto and photos are £15 each. He's also only there on Saturday 14th September.

On 28th and 29th September, both Chris Barrie and Hattie Hayridge will be at Nor-Con, at the Norfolk Showground Arena. Both guests are doing both days at this one, and day tickets start at £12 (adult) / £8 (child), with weekend passes that include priority entry also available from £28 / £18. Autographs from Chris and Hattie will set you back £15 each, with the same price for Hattie's photoshoot; Chris' photos, meanwhile, are £20.

Chris then swaps Hollys to join Norman Lovett for the final EM-Con of the year, EM-Con Derby taking place at Derby Arena on 6th October. Tickets start at £5 for kids and £10 for adults, with VIP passes also available. All autographs and photographs for the two Red Dwarf guests are £15 here.

And finally, should you happen to be in the USA rather than the UK, then a Red Dwarf-related guest you can catch fairly regularly on the convention circuit is our very own Ackerman, Graham McTavish, thanks to his roles in shows like Preacher, Lucifer and Outlander. He's got three events coming up between now and the end of the year: Hamilton Comic-Con (Oct 19), Sasnak City (Oct 25) and Louisville Supercon (22nd Nov). Busy man!

As for the rest of the main cast, it's a quiet time on the convention circuit - Robert Llewellyn is busy with Fully Charged, but Danny John-Jules can be seen in various venues over the next few months with his I've Gotta Be Me live extravaganza, while Craig Charles continues to perform his Funk & Soul Club gigs on a weekly basis.

All in all, if you don't manage to run into a Dwarfer out there, it's almost like you're doing something wrong.
