Ouroboros

Written by Doug Naylor
Directed by Ed Bye

Synopsis

When two realities converge, the Dwarfers undergo their most terrifying ordeal yet - they bump into a real, live, human woman who's attractive and nice. It's Lister's ex-girlfriend Kristine Kochanski. Kryten immediately goes into jealousy overload mode, convinced she'll steal Lister away from him, and starts plotting her immediate return to her own dimension.

Cast

Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat), Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Chloë Annett (Kochanski), Gary Bleasdale (Frank), Juliet Griffiths (Barmaid), Adrienne Posta (Flight Announcer), Alexander John-Jules (Baby Lister)

Did You Know?

This episode marks the first appearance of Chloë Annett as the alternate-universe Kochanski.

In the flashbacks to life before the accident, Kochanski and Rimmer are shown wearing radically different uniforms from those seen in previous, and indeed later, series. This can easily be explained away, however, by these scenes taking place in Kochanski's universe - and representing just another difference between it and "our" reality.

The baby Lister was played by Danny John-Jules' nephew, Alexander. This scene also confirms for the first time that the pub pool table under which Lister was found was in the Aigburth Arms - the same pub on whose pool table he would later earn the nickname Dave "Cinzano Bianco" Lister.

In severe danger of overrunning (with several scenes restored for the Xtended VHS release) this episode saw the show's opening titles cut for the first time.
