Officer Rimmer. That episode would make my top 5 of all time
Tikka To Ride but I almost feel like that's cheating since it's one episode on from the classic era.
Apart from that I'd say
Fathers and Suns
Give And Take
My favourites of the Dave era are:
Give And Take
Out of all those, M-Corp is my favourite.
I dunno while Cassandra is the only not terrible episode of series 8, I think it's still a very average episode of Red Dwarf as a whole. The prison stuff is still really weak, and that "become a dog" bit by Holly was just painfully unfunny. Still it's the only episode in that whole series that actually felt like Red Dwarf.
As for what I think is the best.......either Give and Take or Mechocracy, I still haven't decided which of those 2 I liked best. I feel those 2 episodes were not only highlights of the Dave era, but are good enough to be classics during the show's golden years!
Agreed here. Though I might have to replace Mechocracy with M-Corp. Skipper is a close one for me too. Though Mechocracy has one of my favourite RD gags of all time -- Kryten manipulating Rimmer.
Give and Take. It was Red Dwarf through and through for me. It checked every box. It was as if Doug had found a lost script from the past.
Give & Take
I feel like I could watch these episodes over and over again and not get bored - also, and quite importantly, I don't think there are many (any?) slightly cringey moments or lines in these. X definitely suffered from that a bit. OK it's early days with the XII episodes, but they're giving me such a warm fuzzy glow at the moment!
Well, if its narrowed down to six.....
Stoke Me A Clipper
Sadly out of 37 episodes... probably skipper
Does seem a trend towards XI and XII though. Just about everyone's list is heavy with these two series. With just cause I would say.
Fair enough. I am rather fond of X though.
I'd take two episodes, as most of the others are from the classic side, but the two I like from outside the classic era are Krysis - dude just makes me laugh like a berk with his red 'body' and the loud music coming out of him, and Skipper.
It's not amazing no, but as you say its the most 'Red Dwarf' of all of that series - and to me its above a great number of the Dave era ones too.
I did always think that Rimmer being so keen to shag Kochanski was a bit odd though, never quite believed it. He can't stand her. Obviously if he was more a 'wayhey' lad-type that wouldn't matter, but for all his faults Rimmer isn't really like that.
Rimmer likely wanted to shag kochanski because
1. To annoy lister.
2. Because she is attractive as Rimmer made sure to point out.
I wouldn't say including Tikka to Ride is cheating as after all Doug wrote it solo and it was over three years since the classic Rob Grant glory days. As I said in an earlier post in this thread, Tikka to Ride is second only to Give and Take for me!
