Norman was interviewed by probably the most famous Czech movie critic for a newspaper owned by Czech prime minister. The interview was an utter crap, but there was a mention of Series XIII:
See? No? OK, I'll translate it:

I'd really love to see Norman in season 13. So long as he gets some good lines this time (as in Skipper) and not really depressingly bad ones (as in season VIII).

Sounds like Ant is practising his Glasgy banter.

All these new stuff happening makes me wonder. One reason I adore RD is that the main thing was laugh and laugh only. But since season 8 I am afraid it became victim of the "kick out all female older than 30" TV rule. At least main characters. And in BTE there was a huge plot chaos because of it. They made Lister into drunktard ( in books he stoped drinking because Kotchansky) And she made ilogical choice to leave them completely alone? Where?! That one was obvious. And Kryten believes in "better if she is dead than you are dumped" thing? And Hatty as Holly? I would like to see her as Holly again. And if tv show that made me feel better is now just like the rest of them .... That's just ***

Well I can't explain it any better. That was only way I could summarise it.

To simplyfie.... I would like to see Hatty as Holly again and I think BTE had huge plot hole because of Kotchansky thing.
Looks like they are kicking out women older than 30. And Red Dwarf wasn't like that before. Before all that mattered was humor.

I really doubt anyone used this "women older than 30" rule in Red Dwarf.

Kochanski was "kicked out" in Back to Earth simply because Doug knew that lot of fans didn't like the show with her. (Honestly, series VII and VIII were the worst from RD.) He wanted to reunite the golden age with the four main characters. I know, this 'Kochanski leaving Red Dwarf' stuff was terrible...

And about Hattie, she deffinitely wasn't kicked out because of being woman older than 30. As Doug and Rob said, they've written Holly out, because the show's become more dynamic and most of her lines have been delivered by Kryten.
In series VIII they decided to bring Norman back, because he was the original Holly loved by the fans. (However, he was also written out of Back to Earth, deffinitelly not for being a woman older than 30.)
Doug also said that Hattie might return to Red Dwarf too.

First.... Lol for that.... I don't mind her leaving, I mind that they made Lister into drunktard to do so. I think we would all be happyer if they just folowed season 6 and show as it was. Things are forced trough season 7,8 and BTE and all because of the wrong reasons.

What does a woman "older than a 30" TV" look like?

I must admit, in the past few days I have had more mixed feelings about there only being 1 special. They were offered the finances for 2 and if they had, that would not have only been 2 New Red Dwarf Days to look forward to next year but also 3 hours of new RD material in total: the same duration as a standard 6 episode series.

Then again, I suppose Doug is right to test whether the 1 and half hour special format works given the fact that the previous multiparters were for the most part not too successful.

But say if this 2020 special is strong RD then I hope we will see another special commission announced sooner rather than later. But ideally it would be nice to see eventually a proper 6 episode series 13.

Still, I remain highly excited about the new RD show and if it does end up being the last RD episode ever then I hope it is a fansmeggintastic way to go out!

Only Fools and Horses has loads of one of specials - as did One Foot in the Grave, the Royle Family, Gavin and Stacey etc etc

Yeah I think Only Fools is a good comparison. They made a few specials every few years after they stopped making series.
