Yeah it was a work of genius. My sense of humour tends to be a little on the surreal side, so it really appealed to that. Completely agree about Alexei Sayle, it felt like he'd just be talking forever and it didn't really fit into the show otherwise (and not in a good way, like a lot of the other irrelevant stuff).

I genuinely never noticed the 5th housemate though! Or if I did, I probably just assumed it was Neil cos of the hair. I only learned that was a thing a few years ago and I was really shocked by it.

I noticed him quite a few times. I don't know if his appearance has ever been fully explained by the show's creators, but it only added to the show's wonderful weirdness.

Just watched the University Challenge episode. One of the best ones.

I agree that most of the Alexei Sayle stuff is boring. He is just talking and talking. But I liked his appearance in Interesting.

    WHO?

I do sort of know the explanation or whatever now, but not sure if it's public info so don't think I'm technically allowed to say? It's not super remarkable though. I dunno, I better be careful lol.
Yeah I honestly never noticed him til it was pointed out!
Oh for sure, I would've been so spooked by it if I'd noticed it back in the day.

That's the miracle of old low resolution TV. You could hide anything (and anybody) quite easily. Would have been much more difficult today.

Sorry Nikki but I have to disagree here, The Young Ones was great but watch it today and it has dated really badly, on the other hand Bottom still has appeal, it's appealing.

I certainly liked Bottom in it's time, but to me that series doesn't hold up the same as The Young Ones. Bottom is effectively just the Rik/Ade dynamic and slapstick that featured in the Young Ones with every other element that also added to that series stripped away.

And now a bit of trivia: Bottom was originally going to be called Your Bottom because the show's creators (Mayall and Edmondson) liked the idea of people saying things like "I saw Your Bottom on television last night".

But you started threads on the old forum asking to see everyone else's? Did you enjoy looking at @Rodthepod's bottom?

I never used to start those kinds of threads. It was always other people that were responsible.
