Calling All Fan Films

Filmmakers, now is your chance to have your work appear on a Red Dwarf DVD - as we present the final update on how to enter our exclusive competition!
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Some Quicktime FSP and resolution specs now removed from Terms and Conditions.

25 February, 2005 (Updated 4 March, 2005)

The response to our announcement that Series VII and VIII will feature the very best fan films from our competition has been awesome. The buzz on the WebBoard shows that there are a huge diversity of ten-minute movies being planned, crossing genre, style and medium.

Calling All Fan Films

As it's taken longer than we expected to get this competition up and running, we have extended the deadline for entries to 31st May 2005. In order to give you all plenty of time to put the finishing touches to your masterpieces!

First things first, though - and please pay attention, cos this is important! - here are the Terms and Conditions along with our downloadable Entry/Release Form. Please note that these contain information which may supersede any guidelines given in our previous news item. (Links have now been disabled.)

Unfortunately, for legal reasons you will see that we have been obliged to include some additional regulations - including the restricting of entrants to UK residents over the age of 13 years. We would like to apologise for this necessity and sincerely hope that this doesn't cause too much disappointment to fans who are younger/foreign/both.

The bullet points below give you some of the basics, and at the bottom of this piece you'll find a step-by-step guide to submitting your movie. (Link now disabled.)

  • Films must run no longer than ten minutes, and be suitable for a PG/12 certificate.
  • All submissions must be on VHS or DVD, or as a standard Quicktime file on CD. Two copies of the film are required. We may be in touch for a higher quality version (if one exists) should your film be selected.
  • Entrants must be over 13 years of age. Entrants between the ages of 13 and 18 must have their submission approved by a parent or guardian.
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a signed copy of the Entry/Release Form, signifying that you have read and understood the terms and conditions. (Entrants under 18 years of age must have both their Entry/Release Forms countersigned by a parent or guardian.)
  • Films must not include any material to which you do not hold copyright (excluding use of elements from the Red Dwarf TV show, which is permitted for this one-off use).
  • Fictional content must be based on the existing Red Dwarf universe shown within Series I-VIII. (You may not, for example, use material that exists exclusively within the Red Dwarf novels or other alternative versions.)
  • Closing date for entries is May 31st, 2005. No correspondence can be entered into. We are sorry, but we cannot return your submissions after they have been received.
  • Entries can only be submitted from within the United Kingdom.
