Absolutely Lovely

The cult comedy series makes its DVD debut.

2 May, 2008

There's always been a slightly peculiar connection between Red Dwarf and Channel 4's Absolutely. Three members of that remarkable comedy group - Jack Docherty, Gordon Kennedy and Morwenna Banks - have appeared in Dwarf at some point. Some worked with Rob Grant and Doug Naylor on Spitting Image; Jack, Morwenna and John Sparkes were in Rob Grant's The Strangerers... on and on it goes.

Absolutely Lovely

It has, however, been a struggle for the team to see their four-series, hugely popular show get a full home release. 'Best Of' VHSs seemed to be all we were ever going to get. Until now.

Because yes, a full DVD box set - 28 episodes, plus bonus content, is out on May 5th.

According to the Absolutely website the DVDs include selected episode commentaries (two per series), a stack of documentary featurettes and rare footage of the team's early work. The site's also worth a gander for a ten-minute preview video of the release, which includes some delightful clips and a lot of comedy names extolling Absolutely's virtues. Frankly, we can't wait.
