Danny John-Jules' new short film seeks funding.

13 April, 2012

Being a successful actor, dancer and singer would generally be considered enough strings to most people's bows - but not to Danny John-Jules, who's in the process of adding writing and directing to his range of talents.

Although no stranger to work behind the camera and microphone - he directed his own music video for the "Tongue Tied" single, and has had work produced for BBC Radio - Danny's new short film Bucky is his first foray into movie writer/directing. The script is described as "a story seen from the eyes of a five-year-old boy, who through no fault of his own comes face to face with disaster", and will apparently serve as a public information film as well as touring various festivals.

Produced in conjunction with MotoVentures - who have also sourced an authentic 1950s tricycle, an object which plays a significant role in the script - the film's funding is to be achieved via the increasingly popular method of tiered online donations. Fans who contribute to the production costs can receive a range of rewards - besides, of course, the satisfaction of contributing to independent British film production - depending on their donation:

  • For £2 you will receive a signed photo via email together with a thank you note. In the email there will be a code word so that if you see Danny in the street and say the word he will know you have donated, thank you personally and pose for photos.
  • For £30 you will receive as above plus you get a credit in titles of the short film.
  • For £200 you will receive as above plus a ticket to a Gala Screening and party to be confirmed.
  • For £500 you will receive as above plus an Associate Producer credit.
  • For £1000 (limited places) you will receive all of the above plus you get to be part of the crew or extra for one day of filming allowing you to take photos on set with the cast.

What's more, there's a special competition for donators, and one that should be of particular interest to Red Dwarf fans:

If anyone donating guesses which BUCKY is prevalent in the story they will be allowed to shadow Danny through the whole production and join him at the screening of the new Red Dwarf.

For now, Danny's staying tight-lipped on further details of the film's content and story - so if you want to know more, the fastest way is to help the production get funded...
