In The Club

TORDFC team position up for grabs.

21 February, 2014

The Official Red Dwarf Fan Club is one of the longest-serving societies of its kind, having been formed in a pub back in 1990 - just two years after the series began airing - and gaining "official" status from the show's producers shortly afterwards. The club has been putting on the Dimension Jump convention on a near-annual basis since 1992, and is even one of the few TV show fan groups to have been directly mentioned in the programme in question, thanks to the off-screen mention of fictional TORDFC president "Reg Wharf" in Back to Earth.

In The Club

If you've ever wanted to be a part of this long and distinguished history - at least, to an extent greater than being a highly-valued, paid-up ordinary member - then your time has come, as the club is currently on the lookout for a new team member. It's an unpaid, voluntary role, but you'll get to help out behind the scenes at the Dimension Jump convention, as well as getting involved in the club's official publications, and all manner of exciting things that they're no doubt planning but haven't told us about yet.

You can find out more and apply at the TORDFC website, but here's a brief précis of what they're looking for:

As someone who is 18 or over (sorry younger people!), you'll be one of those confident, friendly types who can get on with all sorts of people, as well as being able to bring bags of ideas to the table. Being good at writing would definitely be a plus - we would like someone who can contribute towards our members only magazine Back To Reality.

At Dimension Jump, you need to be able to get over nerves around the cast and be professional. We can't have team members swooning at the feet of Craig Charles when there's work to be done! You need to be willing to dig in, work hard and keep a cool head in stressful situations. We do have a lot of fun, but it is a lot of work and by event close on Sunday, you will be ready for a long sleep!

You may have experience working in one of these areas. If you have, tell us about it. If you haven't, tell us what relevant experience you do have. If you think you can bring something new to the team then let us know!

The amount of experience is less important to us than finding someone who has the right attitude, skills and interests. You don't necessarily have to know everything there is to know about Red Dwarf, although that would of course help, but you do need to have the drive and enthusiasm, to help us make TORDFC the best it can be for the members.

Applications are open until Friday 14th March, so don't delay if you want the chance to get involved. Don't forget as well that the competition to design a logo for the next convention is still open and taking entries until Friday 28th February.

Find out more, and read about TORDFC past and present, at the fan club website!

While Grant Naylor Productions fully support the Official Fan Club and Dimension Jump weekend, they are stand alone entities in which we have neither a shareholding or common directors. Nor is there any form of legal partnership. Enquires can be directed to the club at Info.TORDFC@gmail.com.
