Running Order
Series XI's episodes revealed - and advance screening news!
5 August, 2016
Well, we'd already given you a bit of an advance tease, by revealing a few weeks ago that episode one of Red Dwarf XI was called Twentica. But beyond that tantalising hint, we'd been keeping the rest of the series' info up our sleeves and under wraps. Until now. Because now, we can announce the remaining five titles for the upcoming series - and, what's more, the capsule synopses for all six episodes, to boot! So without further ado, Red Dwarf XI lines up as follows:
1. TWENTICA
The Dwarfers find themselves in an alternative version of America where modern technology is prohibited, making Rimmer and Kryten illegal. The Dwarfers infiltrate the tech savvy underground and try to bring down the authoritarian regime.
2. SAMSARA
When the Dwarfers investigate a crashed ship at the bottom of an ocean moon, Lister and Cat become trapped together and Lister's nightmare begins. Meantime Rimmer and Kryten discover the ship is controlled by a dark force.
3. GIVE & TAKE
After an altercation with a deranged droid Lister has his kidneys organ-napped. The only solution is to ask Cat, the most selfish creature in the universe, to give him one of his.
4. OFFICER RIMMER
After a scandalous piece of good fortune Rimmer saves the life of a bio-printed Captain and is promoted, fulfilling his life-long dream of becoming an Officer. He immediately opens an Officer's club, which is out of bounds to the lower orders, and uses the bio-printer to fill it with versions of himself.
5. KRYSIS
Kryten has a mid-life crisis and changes his body cover from Mech grey to Ferrari red. The posse try and show him how much he's achieved in life by taking him to visit a mechanoid from his old fleet.
6. CAN OF WORMS
Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall head over heels in love with a lady Cat with a big secret.
Cor. A lot to take in, isn't there? A lady Cat? A mech from Kryten's old fleet? Multiple versions of Rimmer? It's fair to say that long-time fans aren't going to be disappointed by some of the places this series goes to - and these descriptions don't even cover the half of what happens in the episodes, which feature twists, turns, special guest stars, and absolute bucketfuls of laughs in the classic Red Dwarf tradition.
Now, the eagle-eyed among you who were at any recordings of these episodes may have noticed one particular detail: the running order of these six episodes is not the order that they were filmed in. This wasn't the case for Series X, but is otherwise something of a tradition on Red Dwarf - the order the episodes go out in is always given careful consideration, in order to balance out the series in the best way possible. And in case anyone was wondering, given the unusual situation of recording two series' worth of episodes back to back: yes, these are the six episodes recorded in the first block. Series XI and next year's Series XII are very distinctly separate from one-another!
Red Dwarf XI airs exclusively on Dave this coming September - and we hope to bring you news of exactly when you can get see it very soon. But if you want to see some of the series before it makes it to TV, then there's a special opportunity courtesy of a live screening at BAFTA in London.
The event takes place at the Princess Anne Theatre at 195 Piccadilly on Monday 12th September 2016, and will also feature a live Q&A with cast and crew afterwards. Tickets are available now to BAFTA members, but the general public will be able to buy them from 1pm today. Move quickly, though, as space is very limited and this one will go quickly!
Phew. We're excited. Are you excited?
