Twonkmaster

Holly Hop 2021 update with new games and guests.

18 December, 2020

One of the most welcome news items from the past few months was the revelation that the team at The Official Red Dwarf Fan Club were staging Holly Hop 2021, a brand new, all-digital Red Dwarf convention to tide us over following the postponement of Dimension Jump XXI. Promising 'guest Q&As to behind-the-scenes discussions, as well as a few surprises along the way,' the event has already surpassed expectations with the announcement of an exclusive Red Dwarf table read from a script written by Rob Grant, directed by Ed Bye and performed by a cast of lucky fans.

Since our last update you'll be pleased to learn that the team have been hard at work behind the scenes preparing even more exciting online content for the weekend, and we can now reveal that Chris Barrie, Hattie Hayridge, Norman Lovett and Mark Dexter will be joining us for the traditional Q&As.

We're thrilled with this line up, and with just under two months to go, we wouldn't be surprised to see a few more names added to that list. We'll keep you posted.

But the guests are not all that's on offer for the event as the fan club themselves explain:

Twonkmaster

As attendees at Red Dwarf conventions past will know, a staple of Dimension Jump in recent years has been our Sunday-afternoon gameshow. As part of Holly Hop 2021, we'll be bringing you a brand new take on this format with Twonkmaster, a Red Dwarf edition of the BAFTA-winning Taskmaster.

We've set a series of creative tasks inspired by moments from Red Dwarf in an effort to weed out the biggest twonks the internet has to offer, and giving you a variety of opportunities to strut your funky stuff to win a special Red Dwarf prize.

The overall entry judged the best by the Twonkmaster will receive their own Twonkmaster trophy and a print of Mel Bibby's set plans, signed by the late production designer himself.

A selection of the best entries will also be featured as part of the Twonkmaster section of Holly Hop on Saturday 6th February 2021.

All will be judged by the Twonkmaster, a half-crazed rouge (sic) writer who has appointed himself judge and jury to the whole of humanity: Red Dwarf's co-creator Rob Grant.

Those of you who follow the fan club on Twitter will have seen that the competition is well underway, but for those of you who missed it, the first two tasks are invent a new Space Corps salute and create a structure out of biscuits. Here's TORDFC's Alex Newsome with more details, including how to enter:

The closing date for all categories, including those already announced, is Friday the 15th of January, so there's still plenty of time to get your entries in. You can enter in as many of the categories as you like, and as many times as you like. And don't forget, the more you enter, the more chances you'll have of winning. And having seen a sneak peek at the tasks still to come, we can confirm that competition is set to get pretty fierce, pretty quick, with opportunities in store to push your creativity and problem-solving skills to bursting point.

If you want to get your hands on that exclusive signed print, then you can find all the details here. We can't wait to see your efforts at the event itself.

Holly Hop will take place via Zoom on the 6th and 7th February, and is priced at just £9, or £5 for TORDFC members and Dimension Jump XXI ticket holders. Full details are available on the TORDFC website and tickets are available here.
