I was greatly saddened to hear of Sir Patrick's death yesterday. A magnificent stage and screen actor, blessed with a marvellous voice, he was also, off stage, a man of formidable wit, a proud father, and committed human-rights advocate.

He was also an hilarious host on Red Dwarf's 10th Anniversary tribute show. Something we will always treasure and thankfully the clips live on through YouTube.

Years after the show, I wrote a part for him in the Red Dwarf movie, as a visiting general being shown round Red Dwarf by Arnold J Rimmer, who didn't quite know the difference between the Elevator Call button and the Airlock Eject control. Sir Patrick wrote back to me, saying sadly he couldn't accept the part as it would ruin his career!! 😂 But he hoped I appreciated how much he 'truly adored Red Dwarf.' We are left with his work and our memories. My thoughts are with his wife, Sunny, and all Sir Patrick's family and friends.

Rest well, Sir Patrick. We will keep the lights on in the bridge, but no one will make it so quite like you did.
