Boxing Day Delights

Check out what's new - and everything else! - on reddwarf.co.uk.

26 December, 2014

As the year comes to an end here on reddwarf.co.uk, we thought it was high time we took stock of a few things, and gave our humble site a bit of a spring clean and an update here and there. As such, as you settle down to the first of doubtless many days of leftover turkey, why not join us as we take a quick tour through some of the parts of the site that have been freshened up, as well as digging in to some of the content we have to offer that you might have been missing all the time you've been visiting?

Boxing Day Delights

To begin with, here's what's new on the site: we've updated and rewritten the About section, to give a slightly more comprehensive (while still fairly succinct!) history of the show, as well as a summary of its characters and various other bits of pertinent info. Of course, it's designed more as a primer for less familiar readers than the long-time hardcore fans we know most of you are, but it's also a pretty handy refresher of the basic facts if you ever find yourself needing to quickly explain the show to someone...

Perhaps more of a draw for those of you interested in the behind-the-scenes side of the show is a brand new page in our Gallery section - for the first time, we've added a range of exclusive BTS shots from across the entire history of Red Dwarf. Many of these photos have only ever been previously available as bonus material on the DVDs, so they're a little treat for anyone who hasn't seen them before.

But if you still haven't explored all the stuff that's already here on the site, then you might be wondering what else we've got for you? Well, the answer is: lots. Dig into our Features section, for example, and you can find detailed articles, analysis, history, interviews and behind-the-scenes production notes from across the fourteen years the site has been running. In fact, there's so much to delve into that we've come up with a new way of finding your way in - wherever you see the below Holly Hop Drive icon, simply click it and you'll be taken to a random article:

Funny Valentine 1

(And yes, if you click that one above it'll work now, and everything. But wait until you've finished reading the rest of this post first.)

Elsewhere, if you want a detailed look into the history of the show, then the Complete Guide - which is now fully up-to-date to the end of Series X - will fill you in on the story, neatly categorised by series and section. It also contains full cast-and-crew listings for each series, and even a guide to the library music used in the show! For in-universe detail, meanwhile, you'll want the Space Corps Database - our complete archive of just about every character, ship, gadget and - er - disease featured in the series. Yes, there really have been enough diseases for them to justify an entire section.

If you want to freshen up your computer with some Dwarf-related imagery, then aside from the aforementioned Gallery you should also check out the Downloads section - where you'll find a huge range of wallpapers for both desktop PCs and mobile phones and tablets, in a variety of different resolutions and sizes. And don't forget the Games section, with an extensive set of fiendish quizzes to keep you taxed for ages, as well as links to play the exclusive online games Geek Chase and Polymorph.

There's plenty more to explore, too, so feel free to have a proper click around the place - and of course, let us know what you think about the site (as well as chatting about the show with your fellow fans!) over in our Chat Forum...

We hope you've enjoyed reading the site in 2014, and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!
