Christmas Cliché

Rob and Doug's radio comedy gets another airing.

25 December, 2015

If you've never heard Son of Cliché - the BBC radio sketch comedy series that served as the forerunner to Red Dwarf - then where have you been, frankly? But if you haven't, there's another chance to catch the show on digital and online radio at the moment, courtesy of a repeat run on archive comedy station BBC Radio 4 Extra.

Christmas Cliché

The show was created in 1983 by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor as a follow-up to their previous series Cliché - and starred a certain Chris Barrie among its cast. And it's most notable, of course, for the presence of the "Dave Hollins: Space Cadet" series of sketches, which provided the basis for some of Red Dwarf's character, plots and even individual jokes.

Son of Cliché is currently airing on Saturday nights at 11.30pm on the digital station - you can tune in over DAB digital radio or online, and also catch previously-broadcast episodes on the iPlayer for a limited time afterwards. Episode 2 is going out tomorrow night (December 26th) so you've just got time to catch up on the first before it does...
