Bodysnatcher Bargain

It really is too good to resist - the price of The Bodysnatcher Collection has been reduced by certain online retailers to an utterly unmissable price.

At time of writing, you can grab the four-disc set for £13.00 at the BBC Shop, £13.97 from Amazon.co.uk or £15.99 from Play.com.

Originally released in November 2007, The Bodysnatcher Collection was the concluding chapter of the 'classic Dwarf' DVD releases. Allowing Grant Naylor Productions a chance to document the early days of the series in detail for the first time, as well as delivering the fascinating/controversial remastered versions of Series I to III.

Brand-new, super-detailed documentaries on Series I and II are included in the set, complete with rare behind the scenes footage, along with a retrospective look at the remastering process.

But the jewel in the crown is Bodysnatcher, the long-lost episode of Series I, penned by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor... and especially completed by the pair for this DVD. Check out the production archive for all the details.

Rob and Doug also provide commentary on the episode, which is shown in storyboard form and performed by Chris Barrie. They also chat over various other unseen script extracts, including the incomplete Dad episode that almost began Series III.

The disc reveals deleted scenes aplenty, too, including The End: The Original Assembly, which shows the first episode as originally recorded... before it was transformed by reshoots.

Oh and there's a text track, rare snippets of audio, even rarer photographs, a remastering crew commentary on the first episode, easter eggs, an artwork booklet...honestly, you're gonna spend a lot of time on this thing. Here's the full content list.

Sci-Fi Online gave it 10 out of 10, calling it "the most complete retrospect[ive] that I think I have seen for any show." Den of Geek called it "a masterpiece for the collector." And y'know what? They're right.

If you never quite got around to buying The Bodysnatcher Collection when it was first released, the chance to grab it for under fifteen quid is your chance to fill that gap in your DVD collection.

In related DVD news, it's possible that the recent fire damage to suppliers might affect RD DVD stock. If you're concerned, remember that you can grab any episode you like from iTunes.

The Bodysnatcher Collection is available from Merchandise.
